I can die a happy man now. I've no idea how my better half was able to procure this rarest of bourbons, but she did. I also shudder to think how much this bottle cost her. When she pulled it out of her purse at the birthday dinner last night I nearly lost my ability to speak.

To me, this was the best gift I've ever received.

Just looked it up, and it has a $270 US MSRP. Wow.

I've never tried any of the Pappy Van Winkle, but I look every time I'm in the States.

These sell for $1,000+ on aftermarket. It's very difficult to get it at MSRP.

Afterall, only 7,000-8,000 bottles are produced yearly. And a fraction of that reaches retail chains.


EDIT: As a speak, an EMPTY bottle of this bourbon is selling for $250 on eBay.

I've seen pictures on /r/bourbon of people packing parking lots when they go on sale. Thousands of people there all getting a ticket and hoping their number is selected so that they can buy the bottle.

Have you ever tried any of the PVW before? I assume it's good, but is it worth the hype, or is it just because of the scarcity?

Yes, I've had a 20yo PVW once (over ten years ago at a job function down in ATL).

No, it's nothing amazing. I'd put a long list of bourbon in front of it as far as the taste goes.

As you said, it's only the scarcity and the pride factor that makes 23yo PVW what it is.

Any year really. It's a much, much better bourbon and it won't cost you nearly as much. You're pretty much guaranteed to be able and get one if you're actually at Churchill Downs.

Vermont has such good beer. They have something like 30 microbrews participating. It's going to be so good.

My left-field recommendation : Four Quarters Brewing. In Winooski (and not exactly the easiest place to get to in Winooski, not to mention their opening hours).

You're talking about Lemaire...
But if you're looking for a great classical poutine and going all the way to Drummondville for that, well, drive up about 40 km more and head to la Fromagerie Victoria instead.

When I think "good poutine in Montréal", I think of la Poutiflette @BrouepubBrouhaha. But it's absolutely not a "classic" poutine, so I probably wouldn't recommand it to someone who barely knows what a poutine is.

If you're in the south shore, you should definitely go to either Restaurant Gregoire in Mercier (https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaura...views-Restaurant_Gregoire-Mercier_Quebec.html) or at Alfa in Longueuil (https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaura...s-Alfa_Restaurants_Regd-Longueuil_Quebec.html)

Those 2 have the best poutine&hot-dog combos in the south shore of Montreal, but just a heads up, they are always completely packed at peak hours so you might have to get takeouts.

I enjoyed Otter Creek's stuff very much.
