On the menu tonight, the Economic Crisis Special.

Bullhead and Potatoes. I may add carrots if I'm feeling wealthy.

Had some Greek withdrawal, o_Ono not that one. So went shopping and then commandeered my buds kitchen, figured it was best as it would be risky trying some unknown spot and that could possibly be disappointing. Did some grilled lamb chops with Greek salad, Tzatziki and fries in olive oil, naturally. Picked up some bread but made the Greek baklava and had to get enough ouzo and plenty of rosé wine for everyone, what a feast! Some of the simple things you miss when on the road.

Opa!.jpg

We did some ravioli from scratch, talk about time consuming and we only did 2 types of fillings. Won't do that again as it was good but could probably have just as good out at any random Italian resto.

If you're considering Moe's up north, might be wiser to consider Gibbys, can't go wrong there where as the other place, used to be much better.

Used to be a time not that long ago that you could drop in at any random eatery in the GMA and you'd leave being satisfied if not impressed, time changes I guess. It seems one has to be more selective and informed so as to not get burned. Small sample size but feel like Indian cuisine is the most consistent, never has it been a disappointment and at times left feeling impressed. Lesson learned and will be more the wiser next time.

I should put this in the other thread also, out of town or something? what's on?

Dropped in to another Indian restaurant, this one on the west island, getting close to PET airport and departure, got to be a certain somewhere for the party on the 27th! Home run! Not killer hot and spicy, just super flavorful.:thumbu::thumbu:

Made it in time for Kings day! and you too can be eat like a king every day if you eat Indonesian rice table. :handclap: Just don't get how this cuisine is not more available in some places ,can't think of another that has as much flavor and satisfaction.

Been a while since having an authentic Indonesian riz taffle, talk about an orgy for the senses. Looks great, tastes great, smells great, mouth feels great, sounds great eating like a king.:DD

Went fishing with a couple of my kids on the weekend and caught a bunch of trout. It's stocked but still tasty. In a month when the waters warm up we will be fishing the ocean waters. Will switch again in late fall.

Tonight I made Yiayia's avgolemono ( egg and lemon )chicken and rice soup. Greek comfort food.

what ocean and what fish?
The Atlantic Ocean and the main targeted fish will be mackerel and pollock. I smoke the mackerel for a couple of hours in my bbq. It's a very healthy to eat fish. Many consider pollock a trashy fish but it's great for fish and chips. I just wish I could get at the bigger sized ones but can't because I have no boat.

Lol. Yeah, picture worth a thousand words. My wife is English and couldn't believe my Mom. My Mom , nobody leaves until at least full. My wife's mother fed me once ( my first time over to see her and her husband ), and gave my kids ( and yes her grandchildren ) half a popsicle each one time, and that was it. Lol. No joke. Half. A. Popsycle. Each. Yiayia rules.

Very nice, delicious! Never heard that about pollock and use it in making California rolls. Are there other types possible to catch without a boat? We don't have those types but there are some good ones worth getting.

Just a slight difference in hospitality eh? Never ever have I heard someone leaving from an evening dining out with Greeks leaving hungry.

Good luck catching!!

The mrs had some relatives visiting from the home of the rising sun, restauranteurs, and one evening they went to work. Not necessary but appreciated nonetheless. Simple yet sensational. This tutorial is basically identical to what was made.:thumbu::thumbu:

For years, I’ve discarded papaya seeds. Turns out I may have been throwing out a lot of nutrients.

They have a slightly bitter and peppery taste. These seeds are rich in nutrients and offer several health benefits when consumed correctly. The correct way to consume papaya seeds is to dry them and grind them into a powder. You can then sprinkle the powder on your food or add it to smoothies, salads, or other dishes.

I don’t know if there is a correct way to prep them. Some sites advocate drying them in the oven.

Does anyone here consume them?

Picked up a heap of fixings and made this to compare to the gyudon seeing as it was had recently. Both good but prefer the gyudon and prefer sukiyaki over both. Next experiment will be chicken comparisons and Korean ribs.:crossfing

Papaya? that's the color of one of my all time favorite cars. Sadly a car that should be sold as it's not green at all and going more eco friendly the better. :thumbu:

The seeds are often found in packaged trail-mix snacks, a lot of seeds are good to eat, I like a good blend with some nuts and raisins.

Sri Lanka is very diverse in many different ways and has similarities with India, naturally. A lot to see and do and food that is varied and delicious from top spots to shacks that serve rotis that are ridiculously cheap. Be cautious however as what the locals consider not to be hot and spicy, it is very possible that non locals will still find it to be hot and spicy.

Try Battuto. One of the best restaurants in Canada, IMO.

Otherwise you can't miss with those:

I like Tacos Don Rigo in the West Island for legit tacos run by actual Mexicans. Fridas in St Henri is also very good, our Mexican choices have gotten much better the last 10 or so years.

The scene in st henri has exploded, for sure. There's a few around fridas that are good. Tacos Victor is around there. My favorite place lately has been cinqo de mayo for burritos. Their chips and salsas are very good too.

My favorite mexican place used to be on st laurent called Burrito Shop. They did the best f***ing carne asada.
