Went to some friends friends grand opening cocktail lounge and bar with an ample dance floor. For the opening they had some food catered in,what a feast, a real smorgasbord! Think the best of the best was an exquisite seafood casserole, so very rich and decadent, must have had saffron in it, will have to attempt one day to replicate this fine fine dish. Who we kidding though,we were there for the booze and to dust off the ol' John Travolta moves:laugh:

I got a Hot air fryer recently and it's an amazing appliance. I just made pork tenderloin strips, rubbed with a mixture of olive oil and spices. 10 minutes @ 375 F. Melts in your mouth, and I wont even begin about fries.:DD

A few years ago someone mentioned they had one and I distinctly remembering asking about its merits but with no feedback. Is it not still an oven? smoke issues? Sounds intriguing nonetheless though.

I gather your wrist is doing better? hope so. Just say the word though and I'll make a few calls and send over a Miley impersonator and she can give you hand with helping you take care of your meat.;)

It's an oven, yes and no. The big difference is the air flow. and it cooks real fast. Warms up to 400F. in two minutes. Capacity is smaller, but a good sized meal is still doable. I've done chicken legs, hot sausages, fish and chips(exceptionally good), pork tenderloin and chops, perogies. It's also good at rewarming evenly and you can use it as a dehydrator. I tried jerky but left it a bit too long, still good, I'm actually chewing on a piece right now. Haven't seen any smoke either, I guess the wind blows it away.

Thanks for asking, yes it's getting better but still throbs and I have no strength in it at all. I was lucky not to have broken it.

I've gotten into making sourdough bread over the last few weeks. A labour of love, but very satisfying when you get it right. This one's an 'everything' blend with garlic/onion/poppy/sesame:

Thanks! sorry but I had to laugh when I clicked on the link and saw ''Ninja'' stuff like that always irks my mrs,she hates it when people give products Japanese connotations if you know what I mean.

It does sound like a good product though and appreciate if and when you come up with some other good items worth sharing.

Glad to hear you're coming along. Doing any sort of rehab? considered doing some acupuncture?

I'm no Martha Stewart but I'm sure she would even approve. Love the salt and pepper color scheme with matching urinal receptacle device.:thumbu:

It's a pinch pot for salt but I suppose i do see the urinal element there. might have to go give it a wash now that you've planted that thought in my head

It's not something I ever thought of buying, but I've been trying all kinds of stuff in it. Frozen egg rolls for lunch earlier. Pre-heat 2 minutes to 390F . Cook 5 minutes, flip them over, three minutes and done. Slightly crunchy with the insides hot but not burning hot. Maybe better at 375F. and an extra few minutes. I forgot to brush them with a little oil. Try that in a regular oven.

Not food related but, you like listening to music with headphones? I splurged on the top of the line Sony'

https://www.amazon.ca/Sony-WH-1000X...locphy=9000595&hvtargid=pla-942893945174&th=1

I'm speechless, they're as good as they claim . Frequency response? A ridiculous 4hz to 40,000hz. You know the feeling you get in your stomach when you hear loud bass in a bar? These headphones actually do it. I've heard bass notes I never knew existed. Magic, worth every penny.

Funny you should mention acupuncture. Here's a funny but painful event I just experienced. I'm a fan of cacti, and I was holding on to a large "bunny ears" Opuntia with an old pair of gloves while repotting it. You don't want to get near those spines bare handed. That was last summer and I just tossed the gloves back in the drawer. I had to go outside earlier and without thinking, I grabbed the wrong gloves and just as I stuck my hand into the left one, I went: Oh f***!

It does sound rather purposeful, appreciate the info. I shall explore further into its merits, thanks.

I used to,always had/have Sennheisers that worked for me and don't recall if I got the bass. But I was advised from Medical professional to stop as I have some issues and that use of headphones, buds, might exacerbate them. Those do look pretty enticing though! let me know if and when you try them with Metallica's AJFA, hope you can handle it.:yo: I do enjoy the feeling of music in that sense as well, pulsing through the body. I blast it from time to time and can get that feeling chez moi or in the cars and even one of the boats, people here coming from miles away.

Kind of ironic karma no? a prick for a prick? just needling you:facepalm:

Had to look up that specific Cactus, nice! Does it produce fruit? A friend of mine has a massive one on his property that does, got to be about 4-5 meters wide and 3-4 meters high. On the ABC islands some relatives and many people use those singular, tall, stand alone cactus for fences and dividing property.

How do you guys prep meatballs for tomato sauce? Like this?

https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/raos-meatballs-5287055

Do you add milk? Something else?

Some people make them do dry. I’m looking for a moist result.

Took a peek at the recipe and I don't make that style, but the cheese should be enough moisture. Don't know if any harm if making a panade though. I do a panade for other type meatballs, burgers, meatloaf. Can add flavor as well to the panade in various ways.I use panko plain and milk and then whatever I'm making will doll things up to the panade.

I’ve been enjoying frozen peas lately by adapting a recipe I found online. Doesn’t take very long to prep and it’s so tasty:

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter
  • ¾ chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound frozen peas or fresh peas equivalent
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil and butter in a large lidded skillet over medium heat. Saute onion and garlic until onion is translucent. Be careful not to burn the garlic. Add the sliced mushrooms and continue to saute until the mushrooms release some of their liquid and they start to lightly brown and become fragrant. Add peas, salt and pepper. Cover the pan with lid and cook until peas are tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Serve immediately or keep warm on very low heat until ready to serve.
Leftover peas taste great. Bought a big bag of bio frozen peas from Costco.
What I also like about this, is that it uses ingredients that are readily available and you don’t need to thaw the peas.

The multi tasking pea! can use them as ice packs as well:thumbu:
Does sound good though. I like to throw them in some curries, as well as some Brussels sprouts.

Stuff we already knew but good to be reminded of.

Yup! my friends grandfather made it to 107 and he was still sharp at the end. Smoked and drank everyday too and would still be around if he didn't fall from a second floor balcony. And the stories he told about both world wars is something else.

So good to read you @CalgarySnow ! Please don’t be a stranger. :) Thanks for the feedback.
I’ll try not to be, I was diagnosed with breast cancer late last year so things have been a bit busy. I’m good though, had a lumpectomy and recovering from surgery now, I start radiation next week, luckily a test proved that chemo wouldn’t be beneficial for me so I get to keep my pandemic hair:D stay safe
