Has to be time right?

30 percent of this roster aren't NHL players.

Prospect pipeline dry af.

Defence still a mess.

Prodigious waste of money as a budget team.

The fact Dorion has basically had the worst defensive core in all of the NHL the entire time he’s been GM of the Sens will be what he’s remembered for. And he had Erik Karlsson, Chabot and Sanderson - It’s like a wasted fortune.

He uses #7 overall +2 second rounders this summer and he gets a top pairing NHL Dman and this is completely different team.

Instead of losing 5-4, they are winning 3-2 (like your supposed to)

I was open minded to Dorion's vision. But his moves this summer were inadequate at building a competitive roster.

You'd think after looking at teams like Toronto in our division, he'd know better than to focus on having a forward heavy roster. He assembled a team with numerous offensive threats, not enough NHL level defenders, gambling on Sanderson not sucking, has given DJ free reign to have shitty ice deployments, and traded away our best asset to acquire D help while focusing on getting a 1b goalie instead of a good defender.

Dorion sucks at evaluating pro talent and I don't trust him to do anything anymore. Just hope he doesn't do anything to further handicap this team and that new ownership fires him asap.

The moves he made this summer were good ones. DJ is the next to go under any circumstances.
All his moves will end up doing is adding an extra 8-10 points to Ottawa's season total, and this will cost Ottawa the chance to grab one of the 3 juicy prospects that will be available at the draft.

Dating back to 2009, Stanley Cup champions and true Stanley Cup contenders have usually been built off of having top-of-the-draft picks that turn into franchise players.

Drafting 8-12 most years normally won't generate the franchise players that are needed for true contention.

As fun as it was to see Cat join the team....you're right. That draft pick (and likely a good prospect - Greig?) to secure a legit first pairing RD would've been a much better move for the team.

Are you suggesting he should have committed to another year in the basement?

How would that have gone over?

Who was the "best asset" that Dorion traded away?

I'm on the other side here. Dorion just transformed the outlook of the team, put a respectable team together with a budget.
At the start of the year on paper the fire group was really good and the defense was average, every GM saw Dorion coming from a mile away, you cant expect him to sell low and buy high. The simple fact is we should be doing way better with the team at hand, this is on the coach/coaching staff.

The one bad move you can say this offseason was brown for a 2nd unless that 2nd was part of a failed trade for a D.

Let's be clear about a few things quickly:

A/ Everyone jumped on the Summer of Pierre hype train. EVERYONE.

B / We are playing without 3 of our most important players in Norris, Chabot and Zub.

C / Unanimously we thought this forward group was playoff quality and talent for talent we should all still believe that, Norris injury notwithstanding.

D / Despite the summer excitement, the expectation metre was still reasonably fixed around the 'fight for a playoff' spot end of the pendulum.

Chabot has only missed one game, and it can be argued he was one of the problems so far.

I don’t think so. The team has the players to be better than a ranking team like Arizona and Montreal, but the coaching is junior level and doesn’t know what he’s doing.
A good coach can change everything.
They almost had to give DJ a chance. It was the first time this team had such a great top 6.

Injury or not, we see the same patern since 4 year. The only difference, the talent of the top 6 bring us close on the scoresheet every game. Also add Sanderson ans Brannstrom

But, DJ has failed. Time to move on. You either try to change right away the way the player play in order to further their development by adding a strong structural coach. Or you keep DJ, knowing they will missed anyway and hope for a great lottery in our favor.

You’re assuming those calibre D-Men were available… the only ones available were Chychrun and Weegar who was a pending UFA. You spending the 7OA on one of those guys?

And his play and the defensive woes they have created, should not be blamed on Pierre because, well... who could have expected it?

If we were to have looked into a crystal ball and seen how well Sando was adapting we all would have been ecstatic with the shape of our D heading into this season. The RD void would have hardly been a topic of conversation in that scenario.
