The fact the Jets have the highest point percentage in the Central while having no players that are PPG is scary

Every playoff helle so far has been okay but not great. He needs to be great and consistent the whole playoffs and the jets will have a shot. Too often let's a soft one in and kills momentum

What am I remembering? There was something about the Jets giving up low goals for awhile
On November 2nd VGK put up 5 against the Jets. For the next 34 games no opponent scored more than 3, including a 22 game stretch where no opponent scored more than 2 in regulation time.

I’m pretty sure that’s right. I might be off by a game or two. I’m counting rows on my phone.

It’s always possible, but star goalies have a long history of carrying a team into the 3rd or 4th round before falling flat. Think 1998 Hasek, 2003 Giguere, 2023 Bobrovsky. Those guys were almost literally unbeatable and it still wasn’t enough.
I'd counter with 2012 Quick, 2011 Thomas.

Another on your side is Price.

That’s the stat I’m thinking of. Thank you.

Ullmark and Shesterkin put up all-time great (regular) seasons, everyone gets that. I’m not seeing how it diminishes anything that a different goalie might do.
You made it sound like it's some kind od historic performance and compared to McDavid. In reality it is probably weakest Vezina performance in many years. Also his backup has better number.

It is scarry: if Helly doesn't stand on his head they probably lose, so Jets fans should be scared.

Any reason you could think of as to why Broissoit has better number than Helle? Even just one?

It’s not quite the burn on Helle you think it is bud. Could possibly be because the backup usually plays against the inferior teams? Bro has been great for the Jets no doubt, but when you play the Anaheims, Chicagos and San Joses of the league you will tend to have som pretty good numbers

Also, you mention Helle doesn't even have good stats. Scoring is way up. That will tend to reflect on the goalies stats league wide The fact of the matter is Helle has the best stats in the league with a month left on the season. Thats what counts.

And when was the last time a team has won the cup without having a player go PPG in the playoffs?

You’re using two actually-historic performances as the standard. But the last time before them that we saw this level of separation from the sv% pack was Tim Thomas an entire decade earlier.

I think you’re underestimating how hard it is for a goalie to consistently be a clear-cut tier above everyone else without regressing back to the pack. Shesterkin and Ullmark the past two years had two of the most dominant goalie seasons since the lockout. Hellebuyck is pretty close to that this year.

The Jets are a good team, and there are no easy outs in the West this year. Good teams are going to lose first round unfortunately.

There are Jets that are extremely underrated across the league, but that goes with the territory of being the smallest market, and not having as much visibility and tire pumpers. Goes back all the way to Hawerchuk.

Five years ago.

St. Louis's top scorer was O'Reilly, with 23 in 26.

Going by that list, neither team had a PPG player in the finals.

Yup last time 5 years ago and all those other years when the game was more defensive and you could get away with winning with more defense less offense. Now the game is more offense and if you can’t score you can’t win. Without a player going PPG in the playoffs, your chances are not gonna be good. Actually you might need couple of players going PPG to win

Last year with Vegas. Not one guy was ppg in the regular season just like the Jets this year.

Edit: Actually not like the Jet this year, as Scheifele is over ppg.

I’m talking about the playoffs. If you don’t have a player putting up PPG in the playoffs, probably won’t go far

Im not burning anyone. Just arguing Helle performance is not as historic as poster i quoted claimed. Backups usually play inferior teams and still have inferior numbers.
Scoring is actually down from last 2 years.

I just can agree that .923 is pretty close to .935+. You made a point how .06 is huge gap and in next post he is somehow close to players gapping him by twice this number. You cant have it both ways.
