Not even remotely close to being accurate. I don't even care what one thinks of him... there's a long list of terrible players who have played for this organization. Gudbranson might be the most expensive on the list, but there's many many far worse player's then him who have put on a Penguins sweater.
I'll have to start using the :sarcasm:

Canucks fan here.

Gudbranson had flashes of good play every so often with us. When he plays as he should he's a simple defenseman with limited upside, chip the puck out, take the body, clear the net. He's not good for more than that even at his best. I don't know your board or how objective it is so I could be off on this but you're probably looking for him to play well, to find some good in the trade too.

At his worse, he tried to play like he has actual skill he plays outside of what he can do. That leads to overthinking things and once he starts thinking he's a step or two off the play. You can mock the Canucks defensive core, but Edler, Tanev, Hutton, and Stetcher aren't as bad as our team makes them look. Every player that Gudbranson played with has worse numbers with him than without him.

Maybe some of his issues were coaching related and our coaching staff was giving him the wrong advice or killing his confidence which caused him to overthink and play awfully but I'm not sure that makes much sense. Schenn stepped in for us and hasn't looked awful, he's playing the game that you say Gudbranson just played for you. Simple game, makes the smart play, gets pucks out, puts pucks towards the net, doesn't pinch. The kind of game you want from a 6/7th defenseman.

If we got that from Gudbranson he'd still be overpaid at $4 million per season but we wouldn't have called him the worst player in the NHL. There's no beef between the Canucks and the Penguins so if Gudbranson keeps playing simple mistake-free hockey for you guys that's good. I hope Pearson can have a similar turn around with our team and get back to his 40 point top-6 form.

Just my take on things. Best of luck with your playoff hunt and if not best of luck at the draft. Please don't win the lottery and bump us off a pick we desperately need to hit on.
i can assure you the majority of posters on this board do not look for anything positive. gubranson is getting mild praise because he played just fine

As a Canucks fan myself I can tell you that the hatred for Guddy was extreme and the 1st regulation win for the Nux was greeted with some of the most outlandish nonsense I have ever seen including one memorable quote: "I wonder how many shutouts Guddy has cost Markstrom". I lost count of how many times the words "worst defenseman/player in the NHL" were written in the Canucks forum and yet when Jim Benning got at least a couple of calls on him and then managed to trade him for what looks like a decent return literally nobody said that he made a good trade. I attribute this inconsistency to the high quality of B.C.'s marijuana...

You really love to lie on these boards.

Fair enough, I don't exactly know your board or which posters look for what.

I'm going to follow Guddy for a bit to see how he does with your team. Get a feel for if we were making him worse or if he's just bad no matter what is done with him, so maybe I'll get to know a few of you over the rest of the season.

Gudbranson did alright last night I thought considering it was his first game. He was 20-7 in chances, had an 82.35% shot favour ability and perhaps most importantly, had a CF% of at least 65% with EVERYONE he was on the ice with.

I know it’s dumb, because the contract is slightly hideous, but he looks like he has the tools to be an effective bottom pairing guy here with the right LD (i.e Dumo or Pettersson).

So the floor is WOAT and the ceiling is Chris Pronger. I'd be content with a right handed version of Oleksiak tbh.

Yes, but do you need to call him Guddy?

I don’t mean to alarm anyone but Gudbranson looks alright to me.

The question seems to be consistency. We know he can do it. We know that on paper the tools add up. Its whether he's going to have a hot 5-10 games thanks to adrenaline and high team performance before slipping back and only occasionally posting decent spells, or whether he can sustain being effective.

I still hate the move but I'm pretty curious as to how this one turns out and strangely hopeful.

His minutes will probably get less and easier when Letang comes back. He is filling a hole in the roster fine so far. You can win a big playoff spot movement game with him playing at 2RD on back to back road games.

He honestly has a lot of the elements of Daley’s game which I never picked up on. He’s above average skater, can handle the puck, and has a decent wrister.

Big issues are lack of awareness in the d-zone and a pension for chasing the puck.

I feel like this is one of the things Gonchar is good at helping to fix. Johnson's been very difficult to cure but maybe Gudbranson can be better.

He has been fine. He needs to keep relying on his partner to transition out of our zone. His main issue seems to be bad positioning and awareness in the d zone at times. I Watched him on the PK and he seemed pretty bad.

Not perfect, but certainly not the train wreck he was advertised as being (with much video evidence to back it up).

It's only been two games though. Pearson had a decent stretch here too, but was pretty invisible or dreadful for the most part.
