Elvis successor ?

ROUND 5, PICK 156: MELVIN STRAHL, G, MODO J20 (J20 NATIONELL)

Strahl did not attend the draft and thus did not speak to the media. He went 10-12-0 with a 3.35 GAA and an .883SV% with MoDo's junior team in 2022-23.
With those numbers, he'll fit right in on this team.

Elvis needs to learn to cut himself some slack. (Mind like a goldfish... although goldfish can actually remember things for months)

3 years minimum before he even sniffs coming to North America. And even that is probably to play in the AHL.

Thanks. I saw a dude and his wife/girlfriend at Giant Eagle this week who had to be a hockey player, but I didn't recognize him. I thought maybe Severson. He kind of resembled the guy in the video, but I'm pretty sure I would have been able to recognize Kuraly. The wife/girlfriend was impossible to miss.

I honestly don’t see the “language barrier” as the problem here. If anything, IMO, his demeanor, mindset and “personality” are being OVERLY excused because of this aspect, when I think the “issues” can be seen through his ability to really explain himself fully. You can PRETEND or TRY to not be arrogant, but, it’s still there, and he’s NEVER been good enough to EVER be this arrogant or confident in his play.

He had to think hard on which year of Elvis is here now, the problem is other than the LUCKY amount of shutouts, “1st year Elvis” was still absolutely f***ing terrible. He was terrible then and he’s terrible now. And I’m more than glad I can say this all now without all the BS I had to deal with for years.

What is this supposed to mean? We know you hate the guy and trash him at every opportunity you get.

What do you mean I “hate” the guy….

The problem is this, the idea I “hate” the guy comes from me saying he IS and WAS a BAD goalie, and shouldn’t be looked at as better than Korpisalo or looked at as a “starter”.

The IDEA, is that he couldn’t possibly be a “bad goalie”, so I was considered a “hater”. The idea that’s now being passed off as fact is that he’s gotten worse, when he hasn’t.

Is Elvis Merzlikins a good goalie?? Is it “hate” to say he is not, and that he has a huge impact on the CBJ losing games?? Because that is all I have done or said, and as much as some of you might not like my delivery, or matter of fact style, the reality is that I was never a “hater” of anything other than his lack of ability to stop pucks, along with peoples subsequent faulty opinions on both him and Korpisalo moving forward, which has led us to where we are and our current “goalie problems” aka Merzlikins problems, that quite literally I was 1 of only a VERY SMALL number that ever raised extreme caution about him being the CBJ’s choice as starting goalie.

No it is not

However taking every opportunity and even creating opportunities so you can shit talk one particular player IS. This is the most you have attacked a player ever, and that’s with a lot of competition.

I’m not saying you’re wrong about some of the things you say. But you say it with an awful heavy hand, with cruel intentions, and outright venom for a player who didn’t do anything wrong except sign a contract for your favorite team. You are quite literally rooting for the guy to fail, so you can be right,

“Cruel intentions”… my god.

The guy gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a month to play hockey, he’ll be ok.

You guys continue to misinterpret me when I’ve told you he (or somebody else) is going to fail, and/or get it misconstrued and turn that into something I’m “rooting” or “hoping” for.

The only reason I would “hope” he would “fail”, would have been so people would have gotten an ACCURATE take on what he is as a goalie before we committed to him long term as our starting goalie. And yes, Korpisalo being the starter was directly related to Elvis’ supposed success early on.

What you are saying I have done with Elvis, is what the majority of the echo chamber has said about Gudbranson recently.

Bottom line is the team would be in better shape if Elvis was never looked at as positively as he has been up until this point, and if he did “fail” and never got that contract.

Way more CBJ fan haters of Korpisalo himself, the way he has been talked about the last few years, you all conveniently leave out. Legitimately. Hypocrites.

Elvis has the tools (he's done it) but is lacking the mindset.

I hope he gets it together...

In the meantime, plan like he wont.

He doesn’t have the tools or the mindset.

His “mindset” is arguably better than his “tools” and has been a reason he’s gotten a “pass” for different things for so long.

He’s gotten looked at as having “potential” because of his “drive” or “competitive whatever”, when in actuality, it’s ALL bad.

Let’s see now -

An entire large group of people interpret what you’re saying and how you’re saying it a certain way and it’s their fault? It doesn’t create a moment for pause about the way you’re communicating?

You should see me in real life off the internet. Other people will not change who I am. I’m living in Michigan and root for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Does that tell you anything? Because it should.

Most of my personal beliefs regarding most things do not fall in line with “the masses” or majority, and to be frank, I sincerely hate having to abide by rules and beliefs that I find to be ridiculous. And in real life and on this site, most of the times these “rules and beliefs” are controlled by FAULTY groupthink that is being led astray by people with a BS agenda, either directly above or below “the surface” of almost any concept imaginable.

You know, you guys could just admit I was right about Merzlikins all along, or do we have to wait for him to suck again this year? NOT THAT I WANT THAT!!!

Also, you’re also conveniently leaving out all the continuous personal attacks against me, and how many times other CBJ fans would literally attempt to dismiss my opinions to opposing fans because I was a “hater” of 1 of their favorite players. How much that impacted how I would respond should not be discounted. I can give it and take it, many on the other side can only give it.

Not enough for another year of 50+ games of Elvis….that’s for sure. Prolly time to get to the Doc to get on some “anti”-psychotic/anxiety meds like everybody else, eh??

Anyways, the CBJ goalie issues exist, and it’s because of Elvis Merzlikins…..

And you would be called an idiot if you said this would be the case 3+ years ago. But this person wouldn’t be considered an idiot now would he??

Cool. I was just saying that if you want people to not misinterpret what you’re saying, despite it (apparently) happening on the regular, you might consider a variety of potential reasons for that.

He's the most wound up daily weed smoker I know
Well, don’t let any of those god damn hippies tell you there’s no “side effects” from long term cannabis use, where you develop somewhat of a “dependency”, when talking about things like helping keep a healthy appetite, along with keeping a “consistent” personal or emotional mindset altogether.

That said, much of what we all take from ANYBODY posting on here is perception, and nothing more. Your interpretation of how “wound up” people are. There is such a wide variety of “intelligence” of hockey knowledge and “real life”, both on this site and in real life.

Same goes for things like sense of humor or sarcasm. I can joke on here just as much as “wind things up”, but, if I have varying levels and groups of people, -that is to say some will SEE jokes, and others will SEE “wound up ness”-, should I focus my time on those who have a hint of where I’m coming from, or those who think my opinions should be dismissed because they disagree with what I’m saying or how I’m saying it??

Bro, it’s this simple. Much of it isn’t even “misinterpretation”, it’s putting words in my mouth.

The Bobrovsky/winning in the playoffs thing that still gets brought up 4 years later, is BOTH misinterpretation AND was “tongue in cheek” from me to start with. The point was if we won with Bobrovsky and he left, people would say we ONLY won because of him. And many would have believed it, and it would have been wrong.

I can say, Wennberg “sucks”. Laine “sucks”. Wisniewski “sucks”. Elvis “sucks”….

Bobrovsky “isn’t worth his cap hit with this team defense and Korpisalo here”….

And it’s turned into:

“OMG you WANT them to suck and the team to lose”!!

No I don’t. I want them off the team so the team WILL WIN.

There are other players you'd like off the team to help them win too but you don't beat on them and their skillset like you do Elvis. Plain and simple.

I want every player on this team to be better and win too but I don't act like I'm always right when speaking about players. Every person here here knows Elvis was bad last season. Lots of players were bad last season. I want him to succeed this season. If he struggles again, I'm not going to revel in his failure and tell everyone "I told you so" like you will.

He goes into a media interview and talks like he has a new mindset and is striving hard to have a much better year and your response is sarcastically talking about "issues" and being "lucky" and that he is "terrible." I don't think you've ever once admitted that actually earned an opportunity to be drafted and come to the NHL and has had some success regardless if you think it is luck or not.

People would most likely be more willing to accept your criticism of his failures if you were to actually willing recognizes his successes. I know I might.

I'm with Bus, never understood the love this guy gets. He's got a personality sure, but that's as far as it goes. His rookie season was adequate, not by any stretch of the word amazing. His contract was extremely undeserving as is his leash. Regardless it's coming to an crossroads this year. No way he can continue to be terrible and get off easy. This season is his NHL sink or swim season.

You might be right. But you also seem willing to give him the opportunity to prove himself. We would be a much better team with adequate. Adequate won a cup this year.
