Maybe I'll just roll down the window and stick my arm out to use the old fashioned manual signal. But I doubt many people would understand them and probably think I'm flipping them off.I'm almost positive that the cancel mechanism in the steering column is entirely separate from the lever itself. They contact, but your turn signal lever snapped on the outside, so the cancel mechanism won't be impacted by the snap.
But it all depends what caused the return to stop working to begin with. Something snapped or stripped, either in the cancel mechanism that spins with the wheel, or on the turn signal lever. There's likely to be a small plastic toggle on the end of the lever that gets flipped by the cancel mech. I bet that plastic toggle loosened or snapped.
It's a long way to say that you won't know until the wheel comes off. Steering wheels are straight forward, but the wiring and the metal plates inside for the horn, turn signals and other electronics, are such a pain in the ass. It's actually fascinating to see how it all works though.
Good luck!
Well... we shall see I guess.... the part won't be here until later this week and so it will probably be the week after that before it gets installed.
