Will Erixon get a chance playing soon? Big fan of him since his time in sweden.

He should have been here the whole time. Even if we only get a draft pick in return, I'm ready for us to get rid of Nikitin and call up Erixon. Let him play a couple games and if he's a top 6 guy, great. If not, I'm sure some healthy competition with Savard for playing time will be good for him.

Sens fan here. Came here looking for your opinions of Prout. Seems like a mixed bag. The Sens are in need of a right handed shooting D who doesn't treat the puck like a grenade. What would we have to give up to entice you guys into a trade?

I really can't see him going anywhere. We have virtually no RH dmen and absolutely no other dmen of his size.

What I've seen so far is Murray getting more and more time. He definitely made some mistakes against the Islanders, but he covered up for a few as well. He's a rookie, progressing, starting to see special teams time which shows Richards growing controversy. Prout is also starting to look better, smoother and smarter with the puck in his purely defensive role. I'm not really sure why Savard is seeing less time. It may simply be the more experiences players are finding their legs. It's not like Richards has stopped playing Savard altogether.

Meanwhile from everything I hear Erixon is tearing up the AHL, and being sent down set him afire. The need to make a living (among other things) has kept me from watching the Jackets in practice, and I admit I lack the skills required to coach hockey. So I'm hazarding a guess that Erixon came in here figuring the job was his while Savard really upped his game. Prout was really good last year, and Nikitin may be making turnovers but he's a veteran. He's a defensive defensemen and we are for once not hurting for offensive defensemen. Plus Erixon can be safely sent down, while Savard cannot.

Somebody on the blue line is going to get hurt this season long enough to go on the injured reserve. That's when we'll see Tim Erixon. And he'll get an opportunity to seize his job.

From the jj at wing thread:

I'm with you, I don't think Johnson has been that bad, Wiz, Nikitin, Tyutin and Savard have all been worse. I would like to see Erixon come up and have Savard go down and get his mojo back, he started strong and has trailed off a bit. Prout needs to play, he's very good at times and will regain his form of last season if he can work through it.

Having displayed NHL level ability Savard might not clear waivers. Is it worth that risk to bring up a guy who will probably sit most nights? I think not. Erixon may not get a chance until there is a significant injury and even then do you bring him up to sit? Maybe he and the Jackets are better off with him playing in the A and Golo coming up to keep the press box warm.

Interesting read on the Wiz/Murray pairing on the Dispatch. With as much complaining, by some, about Wiz; the coaching staff seems fine with his play.

I've been fairly happy with him this season. That is something if you consider how critical of him I've been in the past.

We're going to see him make some questionable decisions, however I think he's doing more far more good than harm right now.

With his salary on the decline after this season, I look forward to him finishing out his contract in a big way.

There's almost no way Savard clears waivers at this point, even if he his play hasn't been as great as it was 2 weeks ago.

Agreed. He's had some terrible gaffes defensively but he's bringing plenty to the table offensively.

What you mean is that there is almost no chance that he wouldn't clear waivers; with all due respect to waiver wire paranoia.

Completely agree. I think he's the fall guy by some because they don't like his contract. I'll take Wiz for his current contract if he keeps playing the way he has so far this year, especially offensively (What we brought him here for.)

You guys are getting caught up looking at his points. He's been bad. He's been getting tons of PP time just making simple slow passes from the top of the umbrella (or giving it away). How many of these big slappers from the point have been getting to the net? That's why he was brought here.

He's not been bad. Don't accuse me of "getting hung up on points"; thank you very much.

As far as your "getting it on net" argument, it kind of dies when you realize he's hitting the net more than Gaborik (or any other forward outside of Atkinson).

I think with all the shot blockers in today's NHL you've got a good defenceman if he can get the puck through to the net even a third of the time.

Also, Wiz is earning every penny right now. He's still a liability in the d-zone, but Howson knew that when he signed him. Its this kind of offence that he was signed for.

But Howson is gone.... Few knew how bad Wiz actually was on defense... he and JJ are the death wish for shutting down a game.. Give me two Adam Foote's and I'll buy Foote a plane after our second playoff round...

Wiz needs some major coddling. He should never see a defensive zone start, nor should he see any PK time. The Jackets are stuck with his contract for the next several years and I'm sure he has more nights like this ahead of him.

I don't think his offensive contributions this season have outweighed the sheer amount of mistakes he's made that have led to goals against. Hopefully that changes in the future and he elevates his play. Either that or he figures out how to play in the D zone.

I think his good is outweighing his bad this year. Case in point, tonight we might not have made it to OT if he didn't bank it in off of Boll (intentional?).

But I agree with your first point, and it seems we all do. Why Richards doesn't agree, I don't know.

Say what you will but Wisniewski is currently our leading scorer.

And if this team has taught me anything recently, it's that you can't just let the leading scorer... walk out the... wait nevermind.

We are going to love Ryan Murray around here for a long, long time. He's not our top defenseman yet, he learned some hard lessons last night, but very soon he will be hands down our best defenseman. One thing I guess I didn't know about him was his shot. He blisters it from the point and seems to be able to get it through traffic. He's been good with Wiz, but I wonder if he would be better paired with Tyutin?

That shot murray ripped off the post was a bullet! If he can keep firing those off he and wiz could be an intimidating pair on the point during power plays.
