He does work on it and it seems better than when he came into the league but obviously still not good enough. I think we just need to accept the fact that his shot is probably as good as it’s going to get.
I think most fans have accepted it. He is what he is now.
Many leafs fans just prefer he was no longer on the team. The assets we would get for him just make more sense going forward. this team isn’t good enough to compete for the cup and there does not appear to be a realistic way of improving with so much money already tied up.
If anyone but Dubas was the GM, I think he would be moved before the season starts.

Straight-up trade for Eichel anyone? Just curious what others think. I've always thought he has a lot of compete. Would send a message to the lineup no one's more important than the team. Although, I did just post this:

Speculation: - Eichel Mega Thread III

I'd only like it from the perspective of Eichel being signed for a season longer, and at less of a cap hit. It would still involve having big money tied up in three forwards (and among 2Cs and a W, unless the plan would be to have a 10M (+?) player on the third line.)

Difference is size and goal scoring ability. If healthy, I do Marner for Eichel 8 days a week.

Fair. I'd give Marner the edge in overall production though. I don't see a Marner trade happening, and I wouldn't advocate for one at this point. It might make more sense to acquire multiple pieces - rather than going 'big contract for big contract' - in the event that avenue is explored though.

Marner is a good player and I don't see Dubas moving him either but with that flat cap here for a few years you gotta cut bait as soon as possible. Dubas is too dumb or stubborn to see it.

I think he's been so successful in the regular season he keeps trying to replicate it in the playoffs and it's just not working. In the regular season he curls around and patiently waits for the defense to react and then zings them for a big play. That doesn't work as well in the playoffs because even the weaker payers he used to take advantage of are now playing with 200% intensity and hounding him like never before. He needs to accept that waiting won't always work like it used to and make quicker decisions with the puck even if it's not a direct scoring play or he has to dump it in. Basically he needs to respect the playoffs more. And that probably goes for their whole team. But I don't know if that will happen with Dubas here and his quest to prove the hokey world wrong getting his coach and team ready to dance the puck through the neutral zone and carry it across the blueline. In the playoffs. Against Montreal lol.

It's a tough trade to make though and can't be done just with the cap in mind. There has to be enough value in doing so.

Maybe he’ll play fired up next in the playoffs playing a simple game and not being afraid to take a hit

Can we switch # 16's. Maybe for the one from 18 to 20 years ago, who would crash and hit everything he saw. And he was the same size as little Mitchie. But he had heart

I don't think Sabres do it. Marner makes more than Eichel, is a freakin' winger, and doesn't have a history of producing elite numbers without elite talent on his line

This is such a stupid hot take, grow up. The second that Marner got away from Blozak and JVR he started scoring at something like at 1.15 PPG pace and never looked back. He was at roughly the same pace with Marleau and Kadri as he was with JT.

He'll be at 1.25/ppg pace this season, IMO.

Not sure if mentioned in here already but Marner voted NHL 1st-team All Star. No small feat!

NHL announces 2020-21 First and Second All-Star teams

Probably not appropriate for a player discussion thread that has negative bias in the thread title alone but I don't care.

Okay, carry on with the hate!
That’s great and nobody is denying that but won’t that make his playoffs performance worst? Like you are a first team all star in the league and yet, you flipped the puck over the glass during a PK and then cried in the Box.
After coming out of the box, instead of playing with fire and dominate, he pulls the best disappearing act like David Copperfield

Agreed, especially if they get a real left winger instead of Hands.
Hopefully that will translate to Playoffs or it is yet another few months of, why is he still on the team, why can’t he improve his shots….
