Leafs haven't won a cup since there were 6 teams. Haven't made a SCF either. 0 playoff series wins in 17 years. It's not the fans. Tbe fact that Toronto has the largest fanbase in the sport is a testament to loyalty/insanity.

Exactly. The easy way out is to blame the fans when in fact it is absolutely incredible that such a large fan bas has stuck with this team no matter how many years of disappointment.
I know for myself much of my over the top anger this years is that I bought into the Shanaplan 100%. Tank the team get some good picks and build it correctly. That’s what they were doing and then boom Shanny gives the reins to some kid with zero NHL experience who goes out and signs a player that we did not need at that time for 11 million dollars. Then he gives 3 more crazy contracts and just like that the team is screwed.
He has to gut the rest of the team because of no money left.
Then we all have to listen to Marner not once but twice say that he wasn’t ready to start a playoff game and to further insult us he said he wasn’t going to do anything different to prepare for next year………but we are all still here.
Those greedy Punks should that god they play for such loyal fans

There is ZERO justification why he should be Leaf and why Dubas should be a GM or Shanahan a President or Keefe a coach.

I really want to know what Dubas means by drafting skill all the time. Does he mean shot? does he mean playmaking? So far all I see is tiny guys who get bumped off the puck easily and lose board battles against much bigger guys. If you want skill...shooting is a skill too.

Maybe Dubas just wants guys that could skate with the puck around the perimeter or dipsy doodle back into their own zone...possession, right? You don't even need to have a good shot to do those things...

When you command 11 million per year and go 0/5 in the playoffs, nobody gives a damn about regular season totals anymore. When Marner apologists post his regular season numbers continuously, it's just hammering home the divide the fanbase is having right now. They mean nothing to me and are just a reminder of how he gutted the organization to hand him the contract he has. It's all based on season totals.

Boston had the balls to trade Thornton, a 100 point player, who sucked in the playoffs. They eventually win a cup and Thornton keeps going out in the first 2 rounds.

There is precedent to trade good regular season players with a lot of points if it's not working out.

No what there is NO precedent for? Half the cap on 4 forwards.

For you, Marner being "good". Is the end of the discussion. You "don't trade" young good players. The end.

Many of us (who don't have to constantly harp on about how intelligent we are) see things as far more complicated than that.

I believe Mitch has it in him to perform in the playoffs, he showed it in junior when they won the Memorial Cup. But time is running out, he’ll likely only get one more chance here before the team explodes.

I loved Phil but at the time he was dealt, the team had nothing and needed to rebuild. I still think what Toronto did from 2014-2016 was pretty perfect. They just couldn't build off that and let the brats run the asylum.

Did you see that in 2005 season, the season of that trade where they finished in 13th in the East or the year after in 2006 finished 13th out of 15 teams in the East? Before that trade 2003-4 Boston finished 2nd in the East. I can see how when you "think" you see things more complicated, you don't do the work or research to support your point, but hey maybe this is an opportunity for you to add facts to your tool chest... So to recap you want us to follow Boston's model where they go from one of the best teams in the league to cratering to the bottom? Awesome plan there sport.. sign me up!!!!
