That's a lot of money wrapped up in that core and only 1 guy (JT) in it is currently playing at even 1 PPG level,

Meanwhile, in Boston, all of Pasta, Marchand, Bergeron, and Krejci are all at 1 PPG or better....
Pasta is almost at 2 PPG and Marchand is is at 3 PPG (only played one game, but scored 2 G and 1 A)

How much money is going to Toronto's top 4 guys compared to what Boston is paying their top 4 guys?
Boston top 4 are making a combined $16.3M.
Toronto's top 4 are making a combined $40.5M.

How much hardware does Boston's top 4 have compared to Toronto's top 4?
Why exactly is Toronto paying these players this much money?

and some people in Toronto still think their GM isn't to blame for these troubles. LOL

A lot of you need to get outside more and stop being so emotionally invested in hockey. We went through the exact same thing last year with Marner and Matthews and the whole team at the beginning of the season, except it was much worse last season. Marner and Matthew's and the whole team ended up having a fantastic regular season and came within one goal of beating one of the best teams in recent history, have you all forgotten that already?

Who cares if they "play down to their opposition"? Doesn't that just mean they play really well against good teams to still put up the points they do in the regular season?

I was starting to get worried but father told me last night that all is well. These games mean nothing. The team will come out guns blazing in the playoffs!!!

Or maybe, get this, no one wants to cheer for a team this heartless and would rather see a team that battle hard every game, even if it means finishing lower in the standings, and has a real chance at winning playoff rounds

I'm sorry I'm not blaming early season issues again. This trend of playing down to teams is here once again.
This is all on the core players which the GM continues to support.
We need changes and it can't be the coach or be the only one. Either Dubas needs to change this dressing room or someone else should.
Welcome to Aug 2020, the day after the conclusion of the Columbus series.

Marner or Rielly need to go, possibly both. Bring in some good D men and some 4-9 fwds who play heavy and are not afraid to go to the NET.

Team does not have foot speed to cut it this year .. skill only works if there is enough speed to let it work effectively .. when you get caved at C by San Jose all over da ice something is terribly wring with roster construction .. I don't think it is guys who don't give a rats *ss .. guys are flat out TOO SLOW

Oh wow! We are not worthy.

They were also one game away from defeating two awful teams in Columbus and Montreal. The common theme is they didn’t win that one game and the same habits that cost them then are still in their game now.

Tired of waiting for these idiots to get a clue instead of just mouthing to the media about promising things are different and the lessons they’ve learned. If they learned anything, why do they keep showing the same BS habits people have been calling them out for for years now?

Did father make any other prophecies?

man who seen this coming when Matthews, Marner and Nylander entered the league on ELCs.
so disappointing this is what we got after that Washington series when we lost in Game 6. Thought by now they would have or been very close to winning a Cup. but still we're hunting for a 1st Round win still.
they did this last year and can still turn the season around fairly quickly but doesnt give me a whole lotta hope that the results will be any different.
This reminds me of the year Babcock got fired.

Just not sure what this team is. So little urgency and hustle outside of a few. So many guys who are just blah with no real identify outside of the top 6. They aren't tough, fast, tenacious and don't seem to hate to lose. Toronto fans love guys with heart. Reading books on dynasty teams, almost everyone had stars but surrounded them with heart and soul guys.

Why shouldn’t we trade him if the return is good enough. His personal regular season stats are awesome but he has done very little in the playoffs and he has never raised this team above 1st round failure.
He is not some magical unicorn

Despite his "slow start" for his standards, he is unquestionably a top 5 player in the game today and for the foreseeable future. Imagine the capitals traded Ovechkin because of playoff failures, not being able to get past the Rangers or Pens for so long.

We are all rightfully frustrated with the efforts we've seen so far this season, but moving Matthews would be a huge mistake. If we get a Lindros type of return, of course you do it, but I don't think a return like that is on the table considering we live in a cap world now.

Maybe we disagree here but I am ride or die with Matthews. Similar subjects came up with Mackinnon before Makar emerged, obviously I don't expect us to have a guy like him in the system but point being the Avs management group stayed patient and kept building on top of Mackinnon, rather than hitting the reset button. He is a legitimate franchise player and imo the best player in team history, he's still what only 24 ? Continue building around him. We do need to see some changes because the lack of effort is very alarming, but I don't believe moving Matthews/Marner are the answer.

The evidence has always been there.
It was a dumb opinion then and looks even worse now.
Legendary thread though!

By current evidence it was a bad opinion but I at least can respect that other then digging in your heels like some so.

I mean if for whatever reason we turn it around and somehow make noise then yeah I'll be doing the same thing in the opposite direction so I don't fault him.

Not saying trading them is the solution, but their lack of production is a major reason why we are a middling team right now.

Difference is in culture

Boston doens't appeal for good performances or maximum performances. They EXPECT the team gives their best

They expect the same out of their coaching staff. Cassidy who went to the finals got let go after what they felt is a medicore season

Cam Neeley doesn't care about anyone's feelings. He cares about output

That's the huge thing I see at the moment. The team has no identity.
