I get that its NYC but is hockey in NYC really a big bad stressful market? Giants, Jets, Mets, Knicks, Yankees and maybe even the Nets are all more important in the hierarchy of sports in the city.

It's not as stressful as Montreal or Toronto, but I would say it's plenty stressful. The Rangers are the pre-eminent American franchise in the NHL with one of, if not the, largest fanbases, as well as being the most valuable franchise in the entire NHL.

I still take Gallant over Brind'amour.
I kind of agree. Just emotionally, though. Brind’amour is probably the ideal guy for us but I do like Gallant.
Either way I still think success or failure will be determined by the players. Specifically how the leadership develops.

I saw this on twitter, THIS is the team Gallant took to the Stanley Cup Final in an expansion year.
I forget sometimes that they took Lindberg. This franchise has made one bad decision ever and it was taking their expansion pick from the Rangers. That's kind of nice.

I wouldn't say that....sports, in general, make NY a stressful market.

no, the ny market is not very stressful for the hockey player imo. Sports radio rarely speaks about the NHL and for ALL sports, unless you’re a Jeter, you are unrecognizable to the vast majority in that city.

I get the point you're trying to make & I agree wholeheartedly, but that was the opening day lineup & looked VERY different come playoff time. Theodore, Tuch, Reaves, & Bellemare all played big roles during the '18 run to the Finals. Plus Tatar was in & out of the lineup, even though he was totally useless.

The point stands, however...that team had no business sniffing the 2nd round, not to mention the SCFs.

I just don't see it. The city pretty much ignores the Rangers when they are bad and gets on a bandwagon when they are good.

I think Drury is outsmarting himself. The "you just want instant gratification people" are missing the point. There are other teams out there, I'm not sure if there are any vacancies left other than Seattle, but maybe the Avs or Bruins fire their HC.

It was never about instant gratification. Its was always maximizing our probability of having a good coach next season. And hiring Gallant ASAP does that imo.

The point is driven home even more with the names you listed.

Tuch and Theodore were top prospects for Minny and Anaheim prior. They made significant strides in their career under Gallant. I think it speaks volumes to the coach Gallant is. You cannot look at Tuch and Theodore today and forget the path that got them to here.

He also maximized career 4th liners in Reaves and Bellemare, getting them to play in established roles.

Give me Gallant.

It doesn’t rain as much as people think it does. The area west of the cascade mountains is a temperate rainforest. It rains more frequently there than it does on the east coast, but the temperature and humidity are also much more moderate year round. Climate change is affecting all of those things though.

If you love NYC, you probably won’t love Seattle. If you prefer the outdoors, but still want access to city type amenities, the PNW can’t be beat in my opinion.

It’s a very personal thing I think. I personally love the PNW, but I also pretty much hate NYC if I have to be there for more than a couple of days at a time.

A lot of NYers really buy into NYC being the “greatest city in the world” and can’t fathom why someone wouldn’t want to live and work there. Different strokes for different folks.

The internet and instant accessibility to everything/anytime/anywhere killed the mystique of NY. Along with a lot of other cities in the US like Raleigh, Austin, Nashville, Seattle, Portland modernizing and beefing up their infrastructure.

I know I come off as such a NY hater here sometimes I'm just basing it on facts and numbers of people moving in vs. moving out of NY, and the general happiness of friends who have stayed vs. left NY area.

Everything we've read about Drury's management style so far is that he is super diligent in terms of thinking through his options. Not a guy who will make many decisions off the cuff. Definitely fits with the way the coaching search has gone so far.

He's grading Trottier's handwritten application to Sather for grammar :)
