Yeah I'd say it is pretty obvious they aren't right, but they can't get help here and along with that a stigma has grown that if you do seek help, your guns are in danger. My brother in law is in that group. Big time gun owner, and frankly the dude is a bit out of his mind. He's afraid to see any mental health professional because they might take his guns. It is a chicken/egg situation that needs to be attacked from both sides.Personally speaking, if somebody is actually planning this, they're not straight in the head. We need a bunch of everything to change, harsher policies, full psyche for guns, go after the black market at a more unrelenting level, and hell arm administrators (no idea should go under the table at this point). But you can't underestimate the psychological aspect of the human's drive to kill, people will always find other ways. Just look at what happened in Japan, no gun policy and dude burned down an anime studio.
I think a main difference between the US and other developed countries on this is simply the ease of inflicting great damage. In the US if you're 18 or older and don't have a record... well, all the tools are there to do something terrible. Other countries have more safeguards in place.
