That is the thing. Frickin Mirtle just does not say which trades were blocked.
Naming the trades would defeat the point. The point is that Dubas wants to sling mud at Shanahan. If you don’t name the trades everyone’s who’s ever wanted to do a trade is thinking oh wow that trade I always wanted to do to make the Leafs better maybe Dubas wanted to do as well! But Shanahan blocked it??!

The second you name the trades you make that effect less impactful.

Keefe is the only smart one. If I just stay quiet they will forget about me and I’ll just show up to training camp like Hey guys. And they will all be like, did we forget something? Nah, it’s good I guess.
Impressive. This is the only time I've ever seen Keefe and smart in the same sentence. Sadly it had nothing to do with coaching. How is he still here? Won't a new GM want his own man behind the bench?

A new GM might want to see things as is.
They might be so busy with the draft, UFA, NMC, that this is low priority.
They may want to evaluate everything.

That is actually one of the risks of not just conducting negotiations and the draft (trades as well) with Pridham and Shanny rather than the new guy.

And McCann. Conveniently you forgot the biggest piece of the deal.

McCann was what we got for those pieces, it was a 7th + Hallander so we had one of Kerfoot or McCann after the draft, what are you not following?

This is not hard to understand. The idea was to protect Holl, who at the time was a 2 million dollar 2nd pairing D with Muzzin, and they were doing well.

Allow one of Kerfoot/McCann to go the other way. From our team, we essentially paid just a 7th + Hallander to keep the team together.

This just makes Dubas look worse, to be honest.

Shanahan provided a detailed timeline, and established clearly that he wanted Dubas back.

Dubas’ press conference was confusing at the time, as that stuff should be behind closed doors, not broadcast.

Based on Shanahan’s timeline that Dubas is making no effort to address or refute, the whole approach by Dubas and his management seems highly contrived.

I think Shanahan understood he was in damned if I do and damned if I don’t decision, and decided to go public to be clear that the reason why Dubas isn’t here is because Dubas moved the goalposts too far forward and in a very unprofessional way.

Now this weak sauce intimation of interference by Shanahan from Dubas media cronies, with no detail or explanation of Dubas’ side leaves Dubas looking bad.

I don’t care about Dubas or Shanahan, and I hate this situation we are in. It’s a dysfunctional and ugly look. Having said that, based on what I see and I’m hearing, this entire situation seems to be as a result of Dubas’ decisions last week, that Shanahan felt he could not accept and didn’t want to deal with anymore.

When someone goes off on their own and violates your trust, someone you count on deeply, there is going to be acrimony and significant fallout, which is where we are now.

I blame Dubas here, and I think this stunt has already blown up in his face with the reputational damage that comes with it. He got greedy and arrogant, and then started shit when the door slammed in his face.

Not a good look for a GM if I’m hiring…..

What a cluster @uck we are in now because of it.

This is correct.
But I think the general consensus from people at the time is they would rather keep McCann and expose Holl.
Whatever, that’s what happened.

Why though? McCann is not good... Kerfoot outproduces him in the playoffs and is actually good defensively.

This was my argument of why I thought it was just who did the move and not the actual player.

isn't that kind of article more of a Dave Feschuk thing? oh no wait, yes that's right Feschuk writes about the trades that cost dearly and produced zero results

This is sure different writing about trades that weren't made that could've won us the cup for sure, so sort of an all seeing all knowing kind of soothsayer type of thing

I remember when Dubes had that deal worked out with Edmonton, the one that Matthews wanted so badly Kerfoot + Holl for Draisatl and then Tavares to Anaheim for Zegras and picks, no wonder Matthews won't play here for less than 15.

Shanny what a noob

Well, over time Dubas was proven right on the McCann deal and leaving him unprotected.

40 goals in the regular season does nothing for us.
Apparently

Quenneville can't be announced until Gary lifts his "ban" at the end of the season.

Because I think people were looking for ways to change without touching the core. Bring in McCann for go and change Holl for Lily or someone else. Stats don’t always make the best gel.

I was told by a current unnamed exec, and a soon-to-be former player that there were at least two trades nixed by Shanny.

One was Kerfoot, Niemela, 2 x 1sts and Knies for Hagel and MAF.

The other was Knies, 2 x 1sts and Holl for Tarasenko.
I heard too, from sources that McDavid and a 1st for Kerfoot was nixed
