TSN Insider Trading said the Sharks are looking to trade and Boyle's name has come up. He may be too expensive for the Canucks but Clowe and Murray both are UFA's next summer. I'd love to see them in Canucks jerseys, but may be a bit of a pipe dream.

Murray isn't a fit on this team unless he's getting paid less than $2.5M. We need a PPQB/Puck mover in a big way. We miss Ehrhoff in the worst way.

So we can make the defense even more erratic? He's quite possible the worst Top 4 defenseman in the league in his own zone. Columbus would be lucky if they could get anything of value for him.

That's not true at all

He's been great in Columbus

Boyle and Clowe for Booth, Ballard & Connauton?

Scratch that... My MAJOR MAJOR pipe dream:

Booth, Ballard, 2014 1st + Roster player for Thornton.

Sedin Sedin Burr
Kass Thornton Kesler
Raymond Schroeder Hansen
Hig Lappy Weise

If we're looking at Thornton, why not Ribeiro? Both centremen that hover around a PPG. Price on Ribeiro would be much much lower too.

Gillis was interested in Thomas Fleischmann a couple years ago. I wonder if Tallon would move him if he's looking to sell off assets? Big salary but a bonafid 2nd line winger for Kesler. Might have to move Booth to make cap work longterm.

I don't see it happening, that would be crazy though. Henrik-Thornton 1-2 punch.

well that would make for an interesting locker room. kesler is thornton's most hated player and his lifelong goal is to get into a fight with a sedin. seriously, i've played with his brother.

remember this?

If Washington is out of it by the TD and there's no movement on them re-signing Ribeiro, it would be an interesting pickup. Would free up Kesler to move to the wing.

The only problem is the price. I can imagine a decent amount of bidding on a guy like that.

A true standout with his 7 points, D worst -8, and poor possession stats. As I said, there's a reason he has the worst +/- on every roster he's on despite not even playing shutdown minutes.

He will always be dogged with that plus minus stat he's had throughout his whole career, but try watching one of their games... I know that's tough because it's the Blue Jackets but he's been solid ever since being traded there.

Jack Johnson is better than Jeff Carter, that's my opinion from watching these two. I would also take him above Ballard who's playing better this season.

Watch JJ and Carter again. There's not a chance he's better than Carter. I'm quite shocked that this is even put forth. JJ bleeds goals against. It's plain to see.

So you're saying that JJ is simply the unluckiest player in the NHL? If so, I still don't want any part of him because clearly he somehow manages to attract bad luck on a consistent basis.

For the most part, i find this 'stats analysis' and 'advanced metrics' crap to be a bunch of bologna.

But in this sort of instance...i can truly say that even if the 'metrics' didn't say Jack Johnson was a poor defensive player...he just is. It's clear as day, you watch him for a game and you realize he's like Bieksa gone full Pejorative Slur. It isn't pretty, it isn't conducive to winning hockey, and it's about the last thing this blueline needs.

He's also another Lefty. Which helps even less...even if he was a viable candidate to play here. Which he isn't.

If a highly paid vet from Columbus were to fit our needs...i'd wager Wisniewski would be the closest thing. As a RH shot, has shown in MTL that he can play somewhat within a defensive system, etc. But he's like a more offensively oriented but more offensive Bieksa. And that isn't what we need.

What we need is a Right-Handed Garrison. :help:

This i cannot get on board with. No matter what the 'metrics' say...Ribeiro just isn't the sort of player you win with. He's extremely skilled, he has more of an edge to his game than people give him credit for...but he's just not the right sort of player to go all the way.

There's a reason the Stars moved him.

Yet they're accurate at predicting SC winners. Accurate at predicting players to buy low and sell high on. Teams are investing millions of dollars in them. But yes, a bunch of bologna.

You're right. Why bother having a playoffs, let's just do metrics and award the cup to the best mathematical team.

It's science. :sarcasm:

We're definitely seeing things differently there... I'm quite shocked as well

lol. Yeah, maybe you should talk to Canucks management then and tell them not to waste their money?

I'm unsure how a logical argument can be made to disregard a method to objectify a game and rely on the subjective. One would think that managers would want to take advantage of both. At least the smart ones anyways.

Yup. Totally different. JJ is one of the worst defenders in the NHL when it comes to goals against. Statistically backed, as well as through the ol' eye test.

I'd suggest watching the two more closely. Carter is a big reason why LA's possession numbers shot up last year and remain high this year, despite the results. Look for LA to make a late season push once again.
