So if someone wants to use LIRR to an Isl game, how easy is it to get a cab once off the train?

There is a Bens near MSG maybe 2-3 blocks away that was pretty good whe I was their a few years ago. Dont know if it is still any good

Most LIRR stations have several cabs waiting for people getting off the train so I think you should have no problem getting a cab

Ooooh I forgot about Mile End, had a sandwich there a few years ago when I lived in Brooklyn and absolutely loved it. Haven't found too much of note since moving to Queens so I'll have to check out Ben's soon - thanks for the recs!

Gordon - that picture looks delicious.. but I'm stuck at work and starving, so I kind of hate you right now

Queens' food in general is the best IMO, so that's weird to hear -- where do you live?

Ben's Best is just off the R train 63rd/Rego Park strop, pretty easy trip.

Oh, I agree completely. I just meant that I hadn't found any pastrami sandwiches or kosher delis of note in Queens - Ben's looks like the place to go for that

In general though, Queens is food heaven. Can't get much more authentic than a lot of the places here without traveling halfway around the world. I live in Astoria and I love it here - there's an absurd amount of delicious options for Italian, Greek, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Indian, I could go on. Also some of the best Asian food in the country a short subway ride away in Sunnyside or Flushing.

Now if we could only get a legit hockey bar in the area I'd be like

Ah fair enough. Yeah, you're right, not much in that regard.

I live in Astoria too, better off with Italian style delis - Sal, Kris & Charlie's Deli and Sorriso Italian.

Kinda spotty for hockey though. I like Dillingers on 30th past Steinway for games, mostly for the food. Ravenshead Pub on Broadway plays the sound, but the food sucks imo.

Agreed, those are my two favorite delis in the area. I've heard that Dillingers steak night is the place to be, gotta check that out sometime.

Div 1 Womens Hockey near NYC

I have a young female cousin who is taking an interest in hockey and would like to take her to a Div 1 womens game. Just wondering what the closest Womens Div 1 program is to the NY city area? Princeton? Quinnipiac?

firstly, i posted a while ago on your board asking you regarding the MSG renovations - thank you for that. i'm probably going to NYC during march break and seeing a couple of rangers games (prob versus wings, then wild) - the response you gave caused my dad to get better seats than i think he would have without your info - so i'm appreciative.

when i come to nyc my cousin is probably coming with us. i've been to nyc a gagillion times but my cousin hasn't. can any of you give me ideas of where to take him for "views of new york". the "view of new york" thing isn't as flaky as it sounds. me and my cousin are both in high school and for his high school photography course he wants to take photos of nyc from a "high level" if you want it put it that way. personally i dont mind going wherever. for me, i immediately thought of top of the rock and empire state building, because i've been to both so many times. other than that, does anyone have suggestions of where we can go so he can take cool pictures of the city.

i think we're staying at the marriott marquis at times square. i'm fine taking the subway in nyc but while i don't mind figuring out a subway map i also don't want to go too far out there and end up getting lost.

any suggestions?

thanks in advance!

^^

In terms of capturing the scale of NYC on camera, you can take some great photos from the top of the Empire State Building (like you mentioned), the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge, and from the back of the Staten Island Ferry.

Not sure how old you are but the bar at the top of the Standard has a great view

Hey guys.

I'm going to a concert over at Terminal 5 on the 15th. I never really been over in Hells Kitchen before - can anyone recommend any place to grab a bite before hand? Anything around serve real wild, exotic and bizarre food?

Hey guys, im heading to NYC in august for a week and looking at taking in a yanks game. Where is the best spot to grab tickets online and any recommendations for seats? Anything is helpful. Also, what would be a must do if I was in NYC for the first time?

There will be tickets available through the box office for sure if you want to buy day of but for the best deals check out StubHub or the Yankees official ticket exchange through Ticketmaster. Both places will give you a better deal than the box office.

9th Ave in the lower 40's has at least 5 restaurants on most blocks. Walk up and down and take your pick.

A Newfie is walking home kicking old bottles, when a genie pops out of one. "I can grant you three wishes," says the genie, "so choose wisely." The Newfie says "Give me a beer that’ll never run out." A bottle appears in the Newfie’s hand and he downs it, but when we pulls it away from his mouth it’s still full. The happy Newfie continues walking home. The genie says "Hey, you still have two wishes left!" "Oh," says the Newfie, "gimme two more of these then!"

I kid I kid, welcome to NYC!

There's some great Thai food in that area. Not sure if it's bizarre or exotic, but you can definitely get some pretty authentic stuff. Pam Real and Wondee are good bets up near Terminal 5, Larb Ubol does authentic Isan cuisine closer to MSG. If Thai isn't your thing I'd say just walk down 9th ave in the 40s and 50s, plenty of other good stuff too.

My apologies if this has been gone through or beaten to death. I'll be working midnight shifts near MSG/ Penn Station throughout the Olympics. Any good spots to watch the 730AM US hockey games? I'll check out the usual places (Flying Puck, Any Pizza joints at Penn...) to see what will be open but any more info would be much appreciated.

Jokes on you, EVERY beer out here never ends me buddy :naughty:. Seriously though the other two wishes would have been for Vienna sausages and a bag of lays. (google the first one). All in good fun friend! Excited to come to the Big City. Just gotta figure out what i'm gonna go at. The basketball season isn't even thought of in august is it?

Long Beach is awesome, as is Jones Beach Amphitheater if you're looking to take in a concert. NFL preseason should be starting as well if you want to see MetLife Stadium. Hit the beer gardens in queens as well (Astoria Beer Garden and Studio Square). Brooklyn Brewery is fun too, and has an awesome bar called The Whiskey Brooklyn right next to it. Barcade and Radegast are also somewhere around there, but I was seriously plastered at the time, so I'm not sure how far.

Also, I don't know how long you're planning on being in NYC, but if it's more than say 5 days, I would seriously consider hoping MetroNorth upstate to Bear Mountain, West Point, or Breakneck Ridge. They're all about an hour by train, and it's seriously beautiful up there. I grew up in that area and moved to Queens after college.

Man, now I'm missing NY. I live in Atlanta now, which is cool in it's own way, but I wish I could have stayed.

Mables BBQ next to the brewery does some good food too.

Thanks man, unfortunately only there for around 5 days then off to Cali. Were from Newfoundland so I think we'd stick to the city and stay away from the trees and nature ( The snow has been kicking our ass this year). NFL is up and running then huh? That's an interesting pick, what's better for the experience NFL or MLB?

I'm biased, since I don't particularly care about baseball, but if you plan on having a car with you, I'd definitely go for football and tailgate. You don't even need an elaborate setup, just a cooler of beer and some hoagies. I've been to both Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, and both were nice, but baseball is a slooooooooow game, and most people just get plastered in the stands. It's a fun experience though, and probably much cheaper if that's a concern for you.

MetLife stadium is really nothing exciting to see, and it's more of a pain in the ass to get there than the MLB stadiums.

If you're going to have limited time in NY, I wouldn't waste it watching an NFL preseason game, which are usually terrible.

I'd recommend seeing both CitiField and Yankee Stadium as both are very nice.
