None taken. Lot of talk about sports bars and good places to catch Ranger games.

I was just wondering moreso if there was any out of the way places/things to do off the beaten path that some people on here would know about that might not be so widely talked about.

Katz is good but it's a madhouse. I prefer the 2nd ave deli just because it is so much quieter and less people.

Interesting comment I found on Yelp about Katzs and 2nd ave deli. Pretty accurate by me. By the end of my pastrami sandwich, the fat content at Katzs was almost overwhelming. Going to try 2nd ave deli soon.

Totally beats Katz. Why? Thinly sliced pastrami that you can't get sick of... the initial bite you take out of a Katz hot pastrami is full of fatty goodness, but then you get a little sick of it. Not so with a 2nd Ave sandwich. It's all good till the very end.

Also... THEY DELIVER ANYWHERE IN MANHATTAN! Also, latkes!

Baseball: Yanks and Mets have minor league (Class A) teams in Staten Island and Brooklyn. S.I. Yankees are home this weekend. You take the S.I. ferry and it docks right next to the ballpark. Ferry ride, fun in and of itself, is free. And tickets, beer, hot dogs etc are much cheaper than the majors.

Museum: The Cloisters, a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a cool, off the beaten path museum in upper Manhattan.

Beer: Bohemian Hall Beer Garden in Astoria Queens. NY's oldest beer garden. Nice place to spend an afternoon. An easy subway ride from Manhattan.

1) How early should we come to the game? (we already have tickets)

2) Is there anything at Citi Field is a considered a must see?

1. You don't have to get there that early unless you want to walk around the park and check it out. There will probably be no batting practice since it's a day game after a night game.

2. The home run apple from Shea Stadium is outside the Jackie Robinson Rotunda and you could check out where the Shea Stadium infield used to be in the parking lot. Inside the ballpark, there's Shake Shack out in center field among other things to do out there but nothing I'd really consider must see to be honest.

3. Don't know but depending on what size and what beer, can't imagine it being any cheaper than $7 or $8 for the smallest.

4. Yep, the 7 train goes directly to the stadium and drops you right off in front. The station name is Mets-Willets Point. The Long Island Railroad also goes out to Citi Field.

Take the LIRR... much faster and more comfortable

I live around the corner from 2nd Ave Deli. It's great. I like the pastrami better at Katz's but the place is a circus.

Go to the Mets game a little early and check out the Mets Hall of Fame/Museum. Then in the third inning when the bottom of the Mets lineup is at-bat, head over to Shake Shack behind center field and the line won't be too bad.

Are you staying overnight? If so, where? Normally I would suggest just driving to the Garden and parking in a nearby garage but if you're stopping by a hotel before and/or after, the suggestion might change.

well actually no we are not staying at an hotel since after the game we will driving to Philadelphia to watch an eagles game on sunday

Sounds like a fun roadtrip. I personally think driving right to MSG and parking nearby is the best bet. Does anyone else have a better suggestion?

Those tickets get sold out in a minute. Your best bet will probably be secondary websites like Stubhub or TicketsNow.

I second the suggestion that you just drive to the Garden. I don't think the hassle of finding parking near the game will be any greater than finding a park and ride in Jersey and figuring out public transit. Plus after the game you can just get in the car and head down to Philly without having to go all the way back to Jersey first.

I'm visiting New York for the first time in September. I will arrive September 7th and will stay for 4-5 days.

So are there some top tips for stuff that I have to visit? I'm a big sports fan so MSG and Yankee Stadium are a must, then of course the obvious stuff like Empire State or Lady Liberty.
Also I'm looking for some nice bars in the evening.

If you go to the Marriot hotel on Broadway between 45th and 46th you can eat at a rotating restaurant. Completely cheesy but pretty fun. It's only on the 48th floor so it's not like it's high up, but... it spins!

My vote is for the Empire State building over Rockefeller center. If it's good enough for King Kong...

The other suggestions further down are good, as well. You ought to go to a Staten Island Yankees game if you like sports and want to see the city. You'll experience the Wall Street area getting to the ferry, then take the ferry and see the statue, and watch the A level of a rotten, nasty MLB franchise with a great view of downtown. That'll be a nice experience and a very cheap one.

The Frick Collection and the Morgan Library are both great museums that aren't as overwhelming as the Met.

There are bars to suit many tastes, but if you're looking for a beer hall/garden style thing in Manhattan you could try Loreley on Rivington in the lower east side area.

Ive been to many Flyers Rangers last few years up at MSG, tickets are usually sold out on ticketmaster, I use stubhub all the time, I ve been to many events in all the 4 major sports both in NY and Philly. I never had any problem with tickets, They are real tickets and not a scam.

it is pretty much impossible to get tickets on ticketdisaster, especially for a game that popular. You have 2 real options, stubhub or ticketsnow. Both sites are 100% legit and the tickets will be legit. In the slight chance the seller on stubhub sent you bogus tickets, you call stubhub and they get you new tickets at no additional charge to you. They will bang the seller for the money.

Yeah, regular season usually ends around labor day and the play-offs if they make it only last about a week.
