Hi guys,

I'm a huge hockey-fan from Mannheim, Germany. I am currently in NYC with my family and I was wondering if there is something taking place this week in NY related to hockey. We just want to "breathe" some hockey and we would go almost anywhere. The NHL-store is just not enough... ;-)

Could you help us out? Is there an official training or maybe a charity game going on?

Thank you so much for your help. :-)

Ann

Sorry, you've come pretty much at the worst time of year for that. Normally there's an event at the NHL Store for the launch of the NHL video game in which a player or two would be in attendance, but nothing's been announced for that yet. You could stop by Cosby's which is on 31st between 6th and 7th if you just wanna visit another hockey shop.

Hey guys, so i am heading in to NYC in october and my plane lands in JFK and i need to get out to long Island and Roslyn in particular. what would be the best way to get out there? how much roughly would a cab cost?

as well since there is no teams in town to watch a sports weekend with what would you suggest i do? not the total touristy stuff(done that) but good places to go and hang out etc. and what time does the Long Island express go until at night if we want to spend the day in manhattan?

I would rather rent a car than take a cab if you're planning on doing other stuff. If you do drive there, try this: http://mapq.st/PEhzym

As for doing stuff in the city, just take the train into Penn. Take a look at the schedules because I don't know when you're going next month. http://www.mta.info/lirr/

Hope this helps. If you need to know anything else just ask.

How do you get from JFK to Long Island?

Take the Air Train to Jamaica Station, and the LIRR (long island railroad) from there.

As far as I know, the lirr runs 24/7 (but probably not too much at like 3am )

LIRR pretty much stops around 2am and then picks up again at 5am. Doesnt shut down completely, but there are VERY few trains.

I agree. A cab from JFK to Roslyn would be expensive and even more expensive to get back to JFK. Roslyn is on the North Shore of LI, JFK is on the south shore. From Roslyn, you will have to get their local car service and those companies are expensive once you leave their town.

Hey guys,

I'm going to the Giants-Browns game next Sunday, and I was planning on bringing my BBQ and tailgate like there's no tomorrow.

Is it possible in the satellite parkings (if that's really the only option I have as a ticketholder of a single game?)?

What's my best option ton enjoy the pre-game experience if I can't do it "with" my own vehicle?

Also, what does "ALCOHOL GUIDELINES: All New Jersey alcohol consumption and distribution laws will be strictly enforced by New Jersey State Police and MetLife Stadium Staff" mean in the context of a tailgate?

Thanks to anyone who can help me with this, It'll be my first NFL game, I'm really stoked and want to enjoy it as much as posisble!

What you should do is buy a parking pass off of ebay, stubhub, or craigslist. You should be able to find one for between $30-$40.

One of my old managers was apart of a group that had a van with a full out bbq, beer on tap, and a buffet. You paid $20 and got unlimited food and beer. Look for trucks and a lot of food, and ask if you can pay for some stuff. I'm sure some of them won't mind.

As far as tailgating with alcohol, I wouldn't say they are strict. But to be safe, but beer in a cup instead of drinking it out of a can/bottle.

Enjoy!

Thanks a lot for the helpful reply.

Go to the Giants ticket exchange. Buy from there. $25+9.95 in fees. Cheaper than Craigslist, stubhub, ebay, and 100% legit.

You can not tailgate in the satellite lots. Go on Giants.com and but a pass from their ticket exchange. cheaper than the other sites and 100% legit. Gets emailed to you, you print and bring.

Thanks patnyrnyg.

Since there's a 100% chance of rain, my friends won't really want to tailgate a whole lot (if at all, unfortunately), si we'll probably park in a satellite spot.

Hopefully, I'll convince them to get there soon enough so we get to access the tailgates and try to buy food from someone so we still experience the pre-game fun.

I'll let you guys know how it went.

Hey Guys, I'm planning on coming to see a concert in New York on November 17th at Madison Square Garden, Everywhere im looking the tickets are crazy expensive....can anyone recommend a ticket broker or website (tried stubhub/ticketmaster/livenation) that i wont be charged 4x the ticket price for 2 tickets?

Unfortunately, if its a popular concert, you won't find cheap tickets. Especially if it's at MSG. Your best bet is to pay the extra money to ensure you get authentic tickets because there are plenty of fake ones out there :shakehead

Also, you can try checking ticketmaster frequently because they often release blocks of tickets as the event gets closer.

Hallo!

I never thought the day would arrive that i would turn to HFboards for help and leadership.

My buddy and i are travelling to New York for a week from the 27th October till whatever date is the following week. Given i am in a state of post-graduate lounge bumming, dates are somewhat alien to me.

Unfortunately due to the NHL situation, i'm having to search for alternative US sports to watch. Given i'd rather walk on a Zebra crossing, lie down and take the hit than watch baseball, and i like the NFL to a degree, it seems the best available option.

I believe the only option during my visit is the Jets/Dolphin game on Sunday 28th, i was inquiring into A) The best site or avenue for purchasing tickets (and relatively cheap tickets, all i wish to do is drink beer and be obnoxious ;)) B) How far the stadium is from relative central NY. Wiki says the stadium is East Rutherford. I know NJ is close, but not sure how close. How easy/fast is it to get there.

Any help would be much appreciated. I've sent an angry email to Bettman, asking how he can ruin a little boys dream.

Hopefully i have not stumbled into the Giants fan base (although the stadium is the same i guess)!

Thanks, J.

May as well ask the additional question ; what are some of the best places to get lashed at? I am not visiting your lands for zoos or flowers.

The best site is either Stubhub or NFL Ticket Exchange. You can probably get upper deck tickets for cheap (although beware, the upper deck at MetLife Stadium is really high, especially if your used to hockey).

MetLife Stadium is located about 10-15 minutes outside of Midtown Manhattan. You can take the PATH (from the WTC) or the NJ Transit (From Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, and then to the Meadowlands).

As far as Giant fans go, the city is pretty much split 50-50. But they play in separate conferences, so they don't hate each other as much as a Rangers/Islander rivalry would. But yes they do play in the same stadium so you are likely to run into Giant fans at a Jet game (and vice versa).

Have fun!

Thankyou for the information. I actually only just recently watched my first ever live hockey game in Prague, and the seats were sick cheap and close. I expect NFL/New York to be a totally uncomparable trip!

I assume if i wished to find a basketball game, the same site would be the best way to go? One would imagine the Knicks would be quite expensive however.

Probably not much more expensive then what it would cost to see a Ranger game. You can get upper bowl seats for under $100, I'm sure. Although, I've never actually gone to a Knick game so I can't tell you for sure.

And don't forget NYC has another basketball team, the Nets play just 15 minutes south of the Knicks in Brooklyn at the brand new Barclay's Center. I have no idea how expensive or cheap those tickets are, though.

Thanks from that, I'll have to watch out when I arrive in the States.

I'd imagine it would be hit and miss regarding scammers unless buying through StubHub or similar. It seems the markets are flooded with tickets and are priced way too high anyway when they were only $50 (I think) to begin with.

I'll have to keep my eye open.

Any of you ever been to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods?
Thinking of takind the wife for a weekend trip in January. We're not big gamblers but we've been down to AC a few times and enjoyed it.
Would you recommend one resort over the other?
Ideally we would be looking for things to do in addition to just gambling.

A million times Mohegan Sun over Foxwoods. Foxwoods is like New Jersey, huge sprawl and no sense of cohesion. It's like a big mall, and as the name implies it's in the middle of nowhere out in the woods and the drive can be interminable. Mohegan Sun on the other hand is almost right off the highway and is more compact and upscale. Much much better experience

Hey. How much would NY Giants playoff tickets cost.

If my Seahawks play the Giants in the nfc wild card round, I'm considering making the trip to NYC.

really hard to predict. They will prbably be expensive $200+ for any amount of time you would need to plan ahead for. But in the week leading up and on the day itself, especially an hour before game time, under $100 is not out of the question for a wildcard or divisional game
