OT: The All-Purpose Video Game Thread: Part III

Been recovering from covid this week and have been going HAM on Elden Ring.


Finest From Soft release ever. Took the Breath of the Wild model and took it to the next level. Refuse to play with a shield which has made some things a bit… more difficult than they should be but the game is terrific.

Yeah it also has a feel like the original game on NES with the world map. I love how you can power up, redo levels if you missed something , find secrets, and complete certain tasks like throwing 4 enemies or not getting hit .

I Also love how they got the original actors from the original TMNT series to do the voice overs.

FF7 was huge for me and I’ve played part 1 of remake. I’m more excited for 16 and whatever they do next in 14, following Endwalker.

Oh they're both going to get delayed but I'm guessing late 2023 for ff16 and Q2 for rebirth.

16 looks so dope.

For how much I loved the original FF7 and was excited for Remake, I've barely touched Remake. I haven't played it in like a year and feel like I might as well start over, but I know I got a bunch of random shit so might just try to forge ahead before the next installment drops. I'm not a huge fan of the battle system - maybe I just need to watch some videos of how to more efficiently do all the combat because it is somehow really lost on me.

Yet somehow I've found time to start playing Everquest again. I would rather play stuff on my PC instead of consoles anymore, don't know why. I did see FF7R Intergrade on Steam though..

I thought the remake was well done and hoping the 2nd part really delivers also.

Probably. But there is a pretty decent chance both come out within 6 months from each-other which will be awesome.

I don't think the battle system is really all that difficult tbh. It is however one of those things that is either your cup of tea or it isn't. I haven't really seen any middle ground on it - people either love it or hate it. I haven't f***ed around with Classic mode at all but maybe try that?


If you do decide to proceed with it, hop on Intergrade if you can. The Yuffie DLC is worth the price alone.

I just hope they don't go too far off the rails with the next 2 installments.

I'm 100% behind them making new installments (I don't need a pretty version of the og game, the original game is more than good enough if I want to play through it again) but it seems like they're walking a very fine line between doing something thats either going to be epic or is going to fail miserably.

It does seem like we're going to get a f*** load of game with this next one though. Going from Kalm all the way to what I would guess would be meteor being summoned is what, 60% of the original game?

Apparently they are already working on Part 3. So, if there are only 3 parts, this next one should take them 2/3rd into the game, I think.

Id say that chunk is probably about 2/3rds of the OG game. Thats way more than we got with Midgar (pt 1) which was probably 20%.

I'm not worried about how they'll fill the 3rd installment (So much Wutai and deep ground stuff they can do, since they've decided to dip into that with both remake and intermission... plus the weapons.)

I think XVI looks incredible. Massive potential. I still think XIV actually ended up having the best story in any game I’ve played, by the time you get finished with all of the expansions to date and have the “full picture”. Individual expansions like Heavensward and Shadowbringers were epic, but the totality of the overarching events tying together at the end of Endwalker is incredible.

I’m very meh on what I’ve seen from FFXVI thus far. World looks bland and hate the UI on the combat. Also doesn’t look like there will be party members.

But I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt with the reputation its producer has. I think they’re probably being conservative with what they’ve shown thus far. I also think it’s going to run like a dream - the game is complete and they’re taking a full year to polish it off.

So, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. Bought an Xbox Series S yesterday and immediately downloaded this.

I have a lot of catching up to do.

The game is amazing. Even have the Punk Frogs in it, along with other allies and enemies from the original TV series. Good stuff.

Got a series X the other week so been trying to switch from Cod to Halo for the first time (not enjoying the cod this year)

Man what a difference, it’s hard lol. Amazed there’s pros out there that can switch between the 2 games competitively.
