OT: The All-Purpose Video Game Thread: Part III

Huge FF fan so I’m pumped but I’m a little worried that this game will be too heavily influenced by the Witcher. It seems you only control the main character and there’s no party etc
 
Hey all! I have some questions for you, if that's all right.
I am mainly curious about your gaming platform situations, and I was hoping you would share some of your thoughts on the matter.

Some examples of what I'm curious about:
What platform do you use, or do you use more than one? Which is your preferred platform, and why is that? Was it something you grew up with or was there a specific game that led you to it, or was it something else entirely? Have you always stuck with the same platform or has it changed with time, or games, or something else?

But really I'm interested in anything you want to say on the subject, so please feel free to share :popcorn:

Had X-Box One. Got it because I was especially drawn to the Forza games. Also played FIFA, NHL and Hit Man on it for a few years.

Now I stick to strategy games on my PC, namely Cities Skylines, Rome Total War 2 and Franchise Hockey Manager.

I’m pretty eager for Valhalla. The AC games have gotten stale overall but I need something new that’s within my tastes (which is basically Witcher, fantasy, etc.) and I’m a huge Norse lore nerd. Thus Loki, dog of mischief.

I'm so pumped for this game. HUGE fan of the shows Vikings and The Last Kingdom and the game basically has all the same people in it since it's based off real people. Going to have a ton of fun with this one.

Been watching a few of my favorite streamers playing an early/embargo'd copy of Valhalla and it looks good and fun. A bit wonky for some animations and stuff, but overall looks good.

There is 1000% a Day 1 patch for this.

Finally getting into Vampyr. Been on my list for a while and Steam had the base game+DLC for ~$14 during the Halloween sale, so it was difficult to pass-up.

Is it any good? It caught my eye before it came out with some previews but I never heard much about it.
 
In my (not sought after) opinion it's okay but not all that great. I got about 15-20 hours deep and got bored. It has some interesting mechanics in levelling, but the combat is so-so and samey.

I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.

I somewhat concur with this.

I like the atmosphere and voice acting a lot; if anything, it excels at the art direction and acting. The combat is alright. The missions are all very short. I do think the disease mechanics and whatnot are interesting.

I think it's decent to play through, especially if free/cheap. Trying to get through a pacifist run is intriguing.
 
For anyone who is playing NHL 21, have they updated with the Retro reverse jerseys and 94 rewind yet? I keep looking for an update and Xbox is telling me that there are no updates as well but I could have sworn I saw that that update was in the game.
 
Cyberpunk 2077 on last gen console has me feeling like:

I was thinking of getting it but all I have is a PS4 (not even a PS4 Pro) and I've heard it's really rough on past gen consoles and I don't have a gaming PC. Might have to wait until I get a PS5.

Oh well Assassins Creed Valhalla is huge so I have that and there's a bunch of big 2020 games I haven't even played yet like FF7Remake.

Yes all of the new unis are in now. The gameplay update should install automatically though, as far as I know, if you want all new uniforms to show in an existing save file you have to set the roster to the most recent online roster in the main menu before loading your save.

I haven't upgraded to the next gen yet --- but will.

I'm running it on an XB1 because I picked it up for free (Microsoft Rewards). I like that it will carry over when I upgrade.

Joking aside, the graphics aren't drop dead awful, but they aren't good either. The system demands definitely give it a dated feel --- especially with frame rates and resolution.

But there's enough there that you can definitely see where this is heading after an update or two, and more processing power to support it.

Ugh. My copy should be arriving this week. (Ordered from GameStop to support them, and am frankly regretting that decision.)

I did see that CD Projekt Red will have big updates to improve the gameplay on legacy consoles coming in Jan and Feb. They're also offering refunds if people want.

So friggin' disappointing.
 
I’m interested in playing cyberpunk but i knew it was never going to run great on my ps4.

I have a launch ps4 and it sounds like a jet engine doing even the most basic things, it’s never going to handle Cyberpunk regardless of what CDPR does

When I get a ps5 in the next 6 months I’ll pick the game
 
I will say that I am not having nearly the issues that some are having.

I've seen photos of characters without faces, etc., and that's not happening for me. It's lower res and you can't truly appreciate the details as much as one would like, but I haven't encountered game-breaking glitches either.

This is my last work week for the year, so I haven't had a chance to fully dive in yet, but it's worth playing --- especially if you plan to upgrade anyway.
 
Any idea when more patches are coming for the older system?

My tolerance is pretty high, but I decided to wait a little bit before diving in on XB1 (I’ve already bought the game). Played for 30 mins and the game looked like GTA4. Figured I’ll give it a little more time.

Is hoping things are better in January a little too optimistic from my end?
