Peace out Toronto. Gonna be sweet here in Toronto now that their annoying fans and media can shut up.

Also Biz’s love for the Leafs is getting beyond annoying.

If the Leafs wait until AM's NMC kicks in, pay his signing bonus, and Auston tells the Leafs he is waiting for UFA and won't waive except for the Coyotes, the team should at least offer a 2024 for him.

@Jamieh sorry dude, really thought it was Toronto’s year.

…..and did I tell you about the time I scored on Carey Price?!?!
I was shocked to see how slow the Leafs were after playing fast all season. It definitely solidifies my thought that I would never draft or sign a player thats not an above average skater. Its why the Panthers are moving on, the Leafs could not get past them.

For real, why trade for him? we're going to suck again regardless, he's going to be a UFA at season's end anyway. Just wait and sign him or don't.

If Toronto pays his bonus you get Matthews for 750k plus get an extra year to dilute his cap hit (8 year contract).

Toronto has expectations of making the playoffs so they can either dump him to AZ or get nothing for him. Very unlikely an actual hockey trade materializes for them. Very unlikely he forfeits UFA for anyone other than AZ.

The 8th year makes it interesting I guess. Not trade a 1st for interesting IMO. I'd still wait. I think BA will stay patient.

Odds you draft and develop someone more useful to AZ than Matthews with the 10-15 pick next year are basically zero.

Toronto will never do it unless Dubas needs a scapegoat and Matthews' agent wills it into existence.

I have no idea what Matthew's future is but I'm fairly certain he's not getting traded for little after the Leafs pay his large SB. At that point they might as well get a year out of him as a nothing return.

Of course we trade for him and pay way more than a top 5 protected first. Home town hero..Top 10 player in the league at the minimum.

Matthews’ NMC also kicks in this July. He really has all the power. Toronto made an awful deal there.

Really, who's gonna take on that cap hit for just 1 year? I say give them an unconditional 1st just so they can sell it to their fan base. With AM, the Coyotes will be a playoff team as long as they bring in a couple of RHDs. It's worth it for 1 year of AM at $775000.

As you probably know, this is the other play Leafs fans are hot about. They're right in a sense, but the zebras weren't calling much. No penalties in the 2nd or 3rd pd.
