I wouldn't trade Slavin for McDavid straight up. Let alone include Aho. Keep McDavid, The Canes will keep their chances for a Cup.

It's fine to be a homer, but this... this statement right here is the definition of cognitive dissonance. Oh now we could never trade two good players for one known to be the best in the world at this point.

"Let alone include Aho" - really ? Be like ....

Look at the standings. What's that offensive superstar doing for you?

Defense wins championships, and Slavin is every bit as good at erasing goals as McDavid is at creating them.
Not in Carolina it hasn't.

Anyone that wouldn't trade Slavin for McDavid has completely lost the plot.

hahaha omg ANOTHER ONE!!

Bad for Oilers

Mcdavid is a top 5 player all time at worse

Slavin and Aho is not enough

The price I would say though will get laughed at so until a Mcdavid or Draisaitl trade actually happens I cant define their value

I don’t disagree that the price would be insane because from a PR perspective, you simply don’t trade a McDavid for anything less than another McDavid. Look at how the Gretzky trade turned out… the Oilers simply cannot go back to their fanbase with a sequel to that type of deal. So the easy answer is “McDavid won’t be traded, period”.

Strip away the fan/media politics and thinking of it as a pure hockey trade, I’m interested in knowing from the room here, does this deal make the Oilers a better hockey team than they are right now? Does it also make the Canes better?

McDavid has been hurt. Also, you'd have an argument here if teams consisted of one player.

"Defense wins championships"? Jaccob Slavin: 0 Stanley Cups. Is that a good argument? No, but it's as good as anything you're peddling.

Slavin as good at "erasing goals" as McDavid is at creating them is just absurd on its face, I really didn't know this level of blatant homerism existed.

You'd be remembered league-wide forever for that, and not favourably. Like a Mike Milbury type

That's very dumb
Why? Slavins Defense is worth more than McDavid's offense, and he Hurricanes success the past 5 years kinds of proves that doesn't it?

It would absolutely make Edmonton a better team. Zero question. McDavid for Slavin alone would. But you're going to get emotional responses from Edmonton fans, not rational ones.

I have every confidence Waddell/Brindy would have McDavid being a perennial cup contender.

It's always the same thing that happens with these guys.
1) Pay them a ridiculous sum, which puts stress on the rest of the roster. But that's okay, you've got the best player in the world.

But then they
2) Panic sign/overpay/sac the future because they're scared of not winning, causing them to not win.

You've got Draisatl and McDavid...find some two way players for the love of god. Find some shutdown dmen that can skate a bit.

How nice would a Martinook/Staal/Fast line look in Edmonton? Or a Pesce/Skjei pairing.

Pesce/Skjei make about the same money combined as Nurse.
Jordan Staal is making a 150k more than Warren Foegele.

The past success of getting exactly 0 Stanley cups in their career too?

Oh lord, that take isn't just one person? Canes fans would really decline a McDavid for Slavin deal?

I'm not an Oilers fan and like to consider myself a rational person, but I may be losing my mind.

you're having yourself a day today.

Carolina hasn't won squat with Slavin either. Edmonton is damn sure not winning anything after executing the worst trade in the history of the league.

I was scoreboard watching too and somehow Carolina let in 7 goals to the Kraken last month.
This is the team we want players from?

See how stupid that sounds @cptjeff
