Advanced stats are ruining fandom. I get more joy running season simulations on video nerd machines.

Gonna be really ****ing annoying IF the Rangers get ousted in the first round when every other post is saying how the 'stat-head' posters are happy.

Real annoying.

Better to be right than win!

Personally I'd prefer to be right and win, but being right on the Internarbs is the best feeling you can experience on planet Earth.

while i definitely appreciate and pay attention to stats (advanced and basic) im definitely an eye test guy as well.

This team fails the eye test miserably most nights. Im not looking forward to a first round shellacking nor would I be happy about it...but thats what i'm expecting sadly.

Minnesota and NYR are both 48% possession teams, but it's why you need to look deeper than just counted attempts. One team is elite defensively and one has a case as a bottom 5 in the league.

Statheads concede Minneosta is a good defensive team despite only being a 48% shot attempt team? Look at their shots against, it's all perimeter.

Why is it suddenly the contention of the entirety of HFNYR that all people look at when discussing advanced stats is shot attempts?

Yes, MIN and NYR are very similar in shot attempts, but they are VERY different in expected goals against totals.

xGA60, Min is 2nd in the league, NYR is 22nd. (Corsica)

This wasn't a tough one to crack.

Remember the era of people explaining the Rangers being defensively elite because they kept all of their opponents shots to the perimeter, particularly Girardi. Heh

NYR

Wasn't 2010/11 the year of Staal-Girrardi top pairing? Beautiful....if you play for not the Rangers. it's literally like a funnell/red carpet to the net

I remember when early in the season our xGF was a lot higher than xGA people kept saying how it will even out because of our Corsi. Looks like that's not the case with Minnesota.

I didn't really know where else to ask this, so might as well post it here...

What do you guys think of Jimmy Vesey overall? I watched a few games early in the season and thought you guys might really have something with him. I've watched a few lately and thought the dude belonged in the ECHL. What's the general consensus, did I just catch a rough stretch for him, or was early season an aberration?

The general consensus is that he hit the rookie wall very, very hard.
