It has been lots of discussions about the second overall draft pick, but lot of people have forgot our 22 overall draft pick. So my question to you all is who do we want with our 22 draft pick?

With Kakko probebly and Kravtsov arriving next year it looks pretty darn good on RW. We dont really have the same quality on the LW though so I am hoping for a LW on the 22 pick. But who could we get there and wo do we want?

Some namedropping that I would like at 22. I really like Nils Höglander that I think could be a good fit. He reminds me a littld bit by Zucc. Some other guys I would be happy with are Kaliyev, Suzuki, Dorofeyev and Boldy.

And a guy I dont want is Caufield.

That pick could drop a spot or two--say to 20.

Boldy is likely a top 10 pick. We'd have to move up to get him. I actually like Caufield and think he might end up kind of like DeBrincat. A little guy who is dangerous as f***. I would guess he'll be gone too. And Newhook too. Don't think he'll drop that far.....but if he does I'd grab him.

Bobby Brink might be there. Maybe Dorofeyev or Suzuki. Harley, Seider and Heinola are possibilities too. Maybe even Lavoie drops. If Cam York is there you'd have to seriously think about him too.

If Seider is available, pick him. If not, best available right handed FWD it is.

I think it's obvious that we need the right handed shot, more so on O.

If they keep the pick, I'm looking at Seider there. But, I think they might use the pick to try to get up into the top 10.

If they do that, we have to pick a right handed FWD. But ... none of the guys available are right handed ... Cozens and Dach will be long gone, we ain't getting into top 5 again. Maybe ignore the right handedness and go for Boldy, or one of the many dervish centers.

You just say that because he's German ;)

Kind of am :D but more so because he's huge and a legit prospect. I feel German born players always accumulate with certain teams. SJ in the past drafted a lot of Germans. I want that bit of wealth to be shared. Also Rangers would gain more media in Germany, I'd hope.

That's why I wanted the Rangers to draft Sprong in 2015. He's a good player, but it would also change a lot in the Netherlands regarding the popularity of the Rangers

I remember that draft, was looking at him early 2nd round. Could we have gotten him? It was the Gropp draft and he would have fit quite nicely, right handed scoring winger for Blaze-it-up-land.

edit: BTW Seider is in the DEL-finals with Mannheim.

Can’t Kakko and Kratsov play LW?

I get how ever could be better on RW but ....

Buch seems better on RW vs LW too but gotta move guys around for ice

Then theirs Chytil

As for the 22 just take best available but if it’s a good RD it would be hard to psss up

Unless Fox arrives that day

How low can that Winnipeg pick drop?!

We could potentially have Nashville, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Boston or Toronto and maybe San Jose dropping out in the first round with more reg.season pts than the Peg.

That's like the 18-19th pick.

Teams eliminated in rounds 1 and 2 are ranked based on points in the reg season.

The highest the WPG pick can go is 18, if the 4 division winners miss the conference finals and 4 teams ranked lower than WPG in the reg season make the conference finals

Where do we pick if the Blues win this series? Or does it depend?

Yeah the second round still comes into play that was what I was confused about last night. So even if you advance past the first round and Winnipeg doesn’t if you lose in that second round and have less pts than Winnipeg you’d still get the better pick than peg.

I think this helps to provide some context…

An early WPG exit could net us a pick apx 8 slots earlier than we had anticipated (i.e. leaping from 28 to 20)...

In terms of value, it’s as if we were trading TB1 to move up (28 and 31 for 20)...

In the event this Stanley Cup TB1 31 ov doesn’t happen, having a sweeter Winnipeg pick is really just as good (if not better).

31 if they win the Cup. 30 if the lose in the finals. 28 or 29 if they lose in Conference finals. 18-22 if they lose in first 2 rounds. Can't be 23-27 as there will be at least 5 teams with more points who do not make conference finals.

Honestly, I don't care about the position the Rangers take. At this point they need help everywhere. You take the best player period regardless of position. If they have 5 superior RW's as prospects, than good on them. No matter how you slice it, not every prospect turns out how you expect.

That being said, I sure hope there will be a center that slips through the cracks to where ever this pick is in the draft order or the Rangers can use it as currency to trade up and maybe get a top center prospect Zegras/Turcotte or someone of that ilk that may possibly be available in the 9-12 area. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

We'll i think people are waiting until we actually know when we are picking. It's not set in stone it will be 22nd. It could be a low as 18 or as high as 31.

That's a good way to look at it--but also we'll still have TB2.

It might not be a good chance but I think there's some chance that Newhook might still be around depending on where the Jets pick finally falls. There's also the possibility of Suzuki if the Rangers decide they want to focus on a center and Newhook's gone. As far as Cozens, Dach, Turcotte and Zegras--unless we can move into the top 10 with another pick we're not getting any of them. I wonder if Podkolzin will be the big name that falls in this draft though. I think there are worries that he might not come over and if you're a non-playoff team can you afford to take a guy that's a risk that might never play for you?

I thought Podkolzin might drop, but now that the Hawks are in the 3 spot I think he goes at #3, or maybe they due diligence and find out they can get him at #5, 6 or 7 and trade down.

I'm not sure if you missed this, but @Edge told the board a couple of days ago, his sources are telling him that is the exact plan.
