Or they trade Byram for Knies, and sign Carlson or Trouba as a FA.
I'm open to that as well. There's so many unknowns that it makes it hard to reason out our best options.

If we could get Tuch for 9M I'd do that. If we can't we need to replace him and maybe you use Byram like you've said. Then you're on to whether or not Carlson or Trouba are willing to sign here. I'd want to know we can't get Tuch re-signed before using Byram in a trade for a winger though. Also assuming we can't re-sign Byram which would be my preference.

Dreger coming up on WGR to talk Byram
When pushed, He does not think the Blues are a fit now because of Thomas not being available

Mentions 4-5 teams intersted. Mentions Center as a return. Mentions Rangers and Bruins (Zacha)

Marty asked about Knies, he does not see Toronto really interested in trading him to Sabres in division, but does mention Byrum plus, plus as a price if they blow them out of the water

He talks down to Sabres fans like we don't know about his shill bullshite

Man I’m still winded from my last victory lap. Being right so goddamned always does keep you in shape at least.
It really just makes too much sense to use Byram as the piece to replace Tuch. I'm absolutely convinced we are going to circle back on Paryako

I'm fine with Parayko until we see how Mrtka even to an extent Power keeps developing. But not really keen on his age. I don't wanna lose Byram I thought he was one of our best D if not the best in quite a few games during the post season

I think he's open to coming to Buffalo, just wasn't willing to do it under the time crunch he was in.

I am firmly in "I'll believe it when I see it" territory there.

His girlfriend, along with Parayko, have strong ties to the St Louis area. I don't think it is likely that he waives even with time to reflect on things.

Byram makes sense to me and it's why I thought his contract would shape the off-season, not Tuch's.

He's a former 4th overall pick who came into the league touted as a legit 1D. He's a year away from his big free agent contract, as he's 25 now and will be 26 next off-season. 1D contracts are north of $10M now, with Dahlin and Bouchard being the first but Makar is going to reset the market.

Byram's opportunities are capped by Dahlin, and his argument to make north of $10M are going to be harder in Buffalo. His AFP contract projection is $9.5M, which is likely lower than he wants to take right now.

So it all makes sense from his perspective. If Jarmo can't get him to re-sign, move him for help elsewhere and backfill with Spence.

He's going to stay for a girlfriend? Time to put a ring on it.

I'd be all over this.

Tuch won't be missed nearly as much with the far younger Knies on the roster. Carlson can still play. Sign him for 2 years and by then the Sabres will have a much better idea of what they have at RD in Rochester.

With Chayka taking over in Toronto and Byram not being an analytics darling, I wonder if the Byram for Knies stuff is a longshot.

Anaheim needs D. I know they have LaCombe as their LHD1 for the longterm, but it's thin after that with Carlson, Gudas, and Trouba all hitting UFA.

I wonder if something around Byram for McTavish would interest both GMs?

If they deal Byram, I'm calling Toronto for Knies, or the Rangers for Cuylle + Gavrikov and adding to Byram to make it happen. Gavrikov at $7M is a steal and Cuylle is Knies without the Toronto hype
