Jarmo has basically no choice but to get a major addition over the finish line. I know how nearly impossible that is for us…but you can’t have this one magical season and then immediately be in a position to just make subtractions of major pieces. In a vacuum…yeah…let Tuch walk because the contract is atrocious. Trade Byram because you can’t let both walk back to back. Those moves make total sense on a micro level. On a macro level…if you don’t get a major addition over the finish line it’s just the same story it always is. Incredibly hard to get good…and we can’t sustain it because people leave. That mindset…aura…narrative…whatever you want to call it (I call it reality) HAS to change.

This should be a year where they’re adding to the talent to get a step further. Instead, we’re already looking at guys we have to replace…MAJOR pieces. Just to try to stay in the same place. Not great, Bob.

Byfield was trapped on a miserable neutral zone trap system before that was absolutely stifling his offense. and he still managed 50 points the last 3 seasons. He certainly does not suck. He's in a bad system with bad coaching.
IMO he would be a real 1c here.

Sucks when you are looking at him to be a 1C

Thought you were joking, but that would be an interesting move.

Wouldn't exactly plug the hole left by a departing Tuch though.

There isn’t a one to one replacement for everything Tuch does. You’re going to need a different person to pick up his PK minutes than his production. It’s why my favorite idea has always been to fill the hole in the top six with a playmaker because they have been in the wilderness in that area for years. But I also don’t think you’re replacing Tuch age 25-29 with Tuch age 30-38 anyway.

With his speed and defensive awareness, Doan's going to be on the PK sooner rather than later. He should be able to take over those minutes if you can find someone to replace Tuch's points

Maybe. Lindy seems to get more out of his younger skill guys than Tocchet does though.
Michkov seems to struggle with Tocchet, I think he was even a healthy scratch for a game at one point.

Could be a great change of scenery trade for Michkov.

Yeah. And the way they’ve learned to forecheck and defend collectively as a forward unit makes me much less worried about replacing the takeaways and blocked shots parts of Tuch’s game. Doan was already stripping pucks at an elite level. And everyone has started getting back and being a menace much quicker. Obviously Benson thrives at it too…but I watched Quinn doing it in the playoffs. And I wasn’t sure anyone could get through to Quinn anymore.

Lindy hated Afinogenov but he played him and won a lot with him.

Former Sabres star Maxim Afinogenov shares special moment with Lindy Ruff

<<<Looking back, Afinogenov is grateful for some of the guidance and tough love Sabres coach Lindy Ruff gave him.

“Right now, I can see he was right,” he said. “… He (taught) me, and I think I learned a lot from him. When I was gone from Buffalo, I think it helped me a lot through my career until was 40.”

Afinogenov appreciates that Ruff allowed him to utilize his strengths.

“He let me play offense like I want, and he was always point me out on my defense in the defensive zone or how we play in the neutral zone,” said Afinogenov, who received a loud ovation when he was introduced before Thursday’s 5-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens. “It helped me when I played for the different teams.”

Following Thursday’s game, Ruff acknowledged he could be hard on Afinogenov, who sometimes took what he called “incredibly long shifts.” Ruff said Afinogenov would say he had stayed on the ice because he wasn’t tired.

“I said, ‘I’m OK with you not being tired … but two right wingers just missed their shift,’” Ruff said. “I said, ‘We’re on the fourth line already.’ It was kind of that.”

But when they reunited Thursday, Afinogenov showed his appreciation for Ruff by bringing him a bottle of Russian Vodka as a gift.

“I think for me that warmed my heart and made me smile,” Ruff said. “You know you push players and you think, ‘Did I push too hard at times?’ I think I did. But I’m only trying to make them better. But for him to do that, I just thought, incredible.”>>>

And man I hope we get the offseason right. Don't want to regress and fall out of the playoffs...

If they get 2OA, I would be all aboard Bjorck. That guy is everything this team has loved about draftees in the Forton era except size. It's about as likely as me finding a winning Powerball ticket on the ground, but it's possible.

Bjorck at 2 OA over Stenberg?

I mean, I know Stenberg is strictly a winger......but that would be a bold decision.

I would yeah. HP's ranking makes me more comfortable with it. What I'm amused about is that Florida could wind up with Lundell 2.0 if there is a run on defensemen ahead of them at 9OA.
