This is pretty much how I see it. There's a clear top 4 and if they aren't picking there I would trade the pick.

We have this conversation every year. No one in the top 10 trades back. This isn't the NFL.

I also hope they stay far away from McQueen. I don't trust it. If they want a big C I would rather look at William Horcoff in the 2nd.

McQueen seems to be shaping up like Kirby Dach 2.0. And that's not a compliment.

Yeah I know it's a near 0% chance. I wouldn't expect it to be traded. But I would hope they at least look into it, which I'm sure they would. My comment was more a testament to how much I dislike this class after the top 4.

Considering size and shot handedness, Martone could be a fit on that alone looking at the diminutive, left-shot nature of almost all of their skill forwards.
That's completely fair. The size and skill is enticing. I think more than his position, it's the dark periods that I mentioned that concern me most. I'm hesitant to draft another player that needs to be dragged into the fight. That's partly why I've been beating the drum for Bear. That kid is hardwired to succeed like nobody I've seen in a fair number of years. All that said, I can be persuaded about Martone. He's just not an automatic pick for me like he is with some others.

Bear reminds me a bit of draft year Krebs - a lot of energy and work but I do still wonder a bit at his skill level. I love that he works his bag off though. And if they are looking at Bear, picking around 10-12 would be fine for me. I'm not really in love with anything in this draft the more I poke about in it and watch what is going on.

Someone said that Bear is the second Krebs, is there a similarity or not? I just don't know anything about him.

LOL, and the comment above

There is similarity in their work rate, for sure. I think Bear's skill set is less showy and more predictive of NHL success. In my opinion, much more hockey sense in evidence.

Horcoff? Any relation to Shawn?

Catching up on shift by shifts. Goddammit Schaefer is good. I keep trying to grind through the second tier guys, but I keep getting drawn back to Schaefer. Total stud.

Yep, despite someone's freakout about the ranking being somehow political and not because Schaefer is right now the best player available this year... he's clearly the best player available this year.

I'm really unimpressed right now. I'm not sure how to disconnect this incredible sense of ennui about 2025's crop of draftees.

It feels like one of those drafts where looking back years later the best player ended up being a guy drafted in the late first or a goalie drafted in the 3rd round.

Okay, so Misa and Frondell have certainly been noticeable lately. Okay, "lately" for Misa is like since being snubbed for the u20's, but still... interesting to see how both are very much on the upswing.

Misa’s close to 3 p/g since chernyshov joined Saginaw. I think it’s 13g 11a in 9 games. Just wild how that lines been going.

Is it a lazy take to want Kash if we slip out of the top 6 or so?

I read The Athletic feature on him and however much a kid 2-3 years from the NHL can signal a change in attitude, it's the change we need.

We've loaded up on forwards in recent drafts. I still want us to draft centers en masse, but I'd really like a killer who can play key minutes even if he's a LHD.

Stian Solberg last year was that sort of player. Aitcheson is rated around that same spot currently but yeah, he's fierce.

I’m a huge Hagens fan because I think his game is similar to Crosby’s. He’s a poor man’s Crosby to an extent, and the Sabres could use that type of player.

But Misa’s offensive skills and ability to transition the neutral zone with speed and under control are the best in class, IMO.

I think both are very good fits for Sabres, this is a chance to find that 1C. I was very impressed with Hagens' playmaking abilities and hockey IQ.

For those who didn't see the Aitcheson article, this is the link:

He would definitely add an element we're missing. Not sure if his processor is fast enough to get into the top 10 where we're likely to pick, but worth watching. Mrtka is another interesting dman with some attractive attributes: right shot, size and skating, and plays a calm game with defensive acumen.
