The 2025 Draft Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

He would definitely add an element we're missing. Not sure if his processor is fast enough to get into the top 10 where we're likely to pick, but worth watching. Mrtka is another interesting dman with some attractive attributes: right shot, size and skating, and plays a calm game with defensive acumen.
Agree that top 10 feels like a stretch. But find a way to get him - trade down, trade up from the 2nd, find another 1st somehow.

I don't think they have to go 2009 levels of looking for toughness, but there needs to be more jam in their prospect pool for sure. Outside of Ziemer, there isn't much contact among their un-signed group outside of Ziemer and of their farmhands, it's more a matter of being pesky than being physically involved. There isn't much size, applied or otherwise.

Roger McQueen back. Had an assist last game.

Feels like we will pick 4-7 this year.

Desnoyers is being slept on in this thread. I hope the Sabres land in the top 3 and get a game breaker like Misa or Hagens, but Desnoyers has a very similar scouting report to guys like Wyatt Johnston, Anton Lundell, Matty Beniers, Pierre Luc Dubois, and Roope Hintz. These guys all had question about how “dynamic” they could be but there was no flaw in their game. They play simple, smart hockey and produce. He’s got the goods.

Where is he projected ? I'm pretty sure we are are going to be 3-6 ?

I saw Wyatt Johnston in both regular and playoff games games in junior and he was always outstanding--the energizer bunny on steroids with great skill sets. I would love to have seen Sabres get him.

I have Desnoyers at 5 right now. I've seen some Sean Couturier comps, as well as many mentioning his mean streak/dog mentality, and that is really appealing to a franchise that lacks C depth and meanness.

He's in my top 5 list.

They have the first three picks as Schaefer to SJ at 1, Misa to Chicago at 2, and Hagens to the Sabres at 3.

Hagens has had a good year at Boston College but hasn't hit the heights Jack Eichel, Adam Fantilli, and Macklin Celebrini did as freshmen. His nine goals and 34 points in as many outings are more in line with Matty Beniers' production.

Hagens has been a quality facilitator down the middle with top prospects Ryan Leonard (Capitals) and Gabe Perreault (Rangers) both at Boston College and the world juniors with Team USA. Now that Dylan Cozens is out of town, the Sabres could use a puck-carrying pivot who's an excellent playmaker, and Hagens fits the bill.

Then they have Martone to Nashville at 4, Jackson Smith to Seattle at 5, Frondell to the Pens at 6, Desnoyers to the Flyers at 7, and Mrtka to Anaheim at 8.

For some reason, I think if we were to pick third and Hagens and Martone were on the table, Kevyn would take Martone. Although we are now ahead of Preds again.

I suppose it's possible, though I actually do have some faith in our amateur scouting staff. I think they'll realize that drafting a center is probably a better proposition than a guy who's strictly a winger.

I'm not sure about this, but I'd be happy to be wrong if such a situation arises.
