What's so frustrating is that if you simply improved the Power Play to league average the team is in a playoff spot right now. Simply hiring a coach who knows how to organize a successful PP would be as much of a game changer as anything.

While a good coach would be helpful, they also need these tools to execute. They don't. They are going to need a lot of reps to break some old and troubling habits.

The fact they don't even try anything is just so so so stupid. f***, claim someone off waivers, maybe you luck into something, trade a low level pick for someone maybe you get a bottom pairing defender out of it. Just f***ing try something, the season is lost anyway.

I feel like this is a time capsule of the last decade.

Which McQueen are you talking about? Because Roger has played all of 8 games this year and hasn't laced up since Oct. 12. He's got injury concerns the likes of Cayden Lindstrom. I would hope they stay far away from that.
He is expected to return back from his injury this month giving him plenty of playing time so not like Cayden Lindstrom.

At 6'5 and 18 years old he can be a force.......You run away. I will stay and watch.

Bottom 5 PP iui s a factor where they would win games they were tied late and lost or tied in games they lost with a 1 g 3rd period defecit.

They Also came away with 0/1 pts in games they had a 3rd period lead

Why not try go all in for trades and free agentcy this summer ? Sabres havent wonn cup since they game into the League. So why not test something different . Trade picks, prospects and ice the best team you can . If it fails go into a new rebuild . Sabres havent wonn anything since they came into the League so trying something different

It takes two (and when you factor in NTCs & NMCs it takes three for many trades) to tango.

Plus, there is the question about what kind of salary budget they are working with because they are so worried about re-signing future RFAs.

1. Going all in on FA has always been an awful idea. Seattle did that last summer signing Montour/Stephenson to giant deals and they're 3 points ahead of us. Same with Nashville and Stamkos/Skeji/Marchessault. Best way to play FA is to target some vets that fit the lineup well.

2. Everybody has a NTC in today's NHL. Even mediocre 3rd liners. Very tough to make trades happen. Maybe you get lucky and get someone to waive, but it's probably not happening. You're relegated to targeting younger players w/o NTCs. The issue there is that teams don't want to trade their good young players. You're stuck going after young guys who are heavily struggling and need a change of scenery. That's someone like Trevor Zegras or Simon Nemec.

I don't think that quite does it.

Leave average/median PP is about 22% I think? That gives them 8 more goals. I don't think 8 more goals turns the 5 or 6 losses they need into wins.

I dont mean all in like Nashville , they didnt had the pieces to compete, i mean more like Florida did . Use pieces they have like 1 pick, ostlund , Cozens rosen Samuelsson Tuch Krebs Quinn Byram jokihsrju etc and change the dynamic of the team total

Florida made a couple of shrewd "buy low" deals like Bennett for 2 seconds, or a late first/goalie prospect for Reinhart, freeing Montour for a 3rd. They were able to buy in on Tkachuk when he became available. And they also did well in waivers with a guy like Forsling and they've done well with plucking guys like Verhaeghe, Cousins (now in Ottawa) and Lomberg (now back with Calgary) basically for almost nothing as UFA's. Oh, and they also have kept their high draftees like Barkov, Lundell and Ekblad. The best part of what they have done is strike when they have an opportunity when other teams are making top line talent available.

They haven't sat on their hands, they dealt arguably their best scorer in Huberdeau, their best defensive defenseman in Weegar to reshape with Tkachuk. It's a matter of being willing when something appears which Adams says he has tried to be but has not shown any ability to make happen.

I hope we have a new GM this offseason, and I'm basically willing to trade everybody except Dahlin to reshape the roster. They can jettison half the top 6 for all I care. I think it's pretty clear the current configuration isn't going to get it done.
