Shayna on Sabres Live talked about players on non playoff looking teams this morning as possible trade targets.
Donato
Nyquist
Farabee

She admitted still loving Ehlers but it likely not happening.

I might do a Farabee-Krebs+ deal ?

Duffer does not see anything imminent unless scoring dips again and based on current form

Krebs doesn't even scratch the service for Farabee.

You usually don't lead with your throw in piece.

And none of them are the center. In fact, if we acquire someone like that, then who will sit bench?

Not really the coach's preference regarding handedness of his pairs, but does this blip of success without him put Jokiharju out into the trade talk miasma?
I'd be surprised if they added players and somehow held onto their plethora of NHL defensemen. It may depend on who's hot/cold at that point.

My vote would be Sammy because I think he fetches more and seems to have gotten a little too comfortable. I can see them keeping him though as he has better physical tools to rehab (pun intended).

Quinn's potential has always been as high as anyone on the team. Good two-way game, quick, excellent shot, and high hockey IQ. Not sure there is a player out there I am adding assets to Quinn to acquire.
Given Quinn's slow start to the season, I doubt his trade value is that high around the league.

I get why people would want to be patient. I also get why people are growing impatient with the early play of Cozens and Quinn.

The most likely player to go has to be Joker, doesn’t it? He’s a pending UFA. He’s scratched. He earned that scratch. He’s youngish. Right handed. Someone will want him. I wish them luck…but someone will want him. Even if it’s for a pick…they can flip the pick as part of another deal. Guy won’t be back next year…and he doesn’t help you when he is in the lineup now.

I wouldn’t have brought him back…eveyrone knows that. I don’t want him in the lineup again…probably know that too. Obvious trade candidate..but it would balloon their unspent cap to a point where Adams probably doesn’t want that heat.

Scratching seven million dollars in D and having the team look infinitely better with replacement level D probably isn’t great either. But there is a lot less heat when it looks good.

This is exactly when you don't trade someone. Now if you wanted to sell Zucker and McLeod right now, THAT is selling high (Vacuum trade, not happening). I think 31 GM's would take a risk and buy Quinn right now even with his struggles.

I said that earlier in this thread was the topic was brought up that multiple GMs are calling Adams on Quinn.

GMs are calling on Quinn to try and get a quality young player who is struggling for cheap.

And I was saying that the only Quinn trade I would have any interest in would be something around a significant instant upgrade in the top 6 F. But, I also know that an offer like that is highly unlikely to be available right now.

But, that seems to be an area of the roster that the Sabres are pretty happy with at this point and unlikely to be an area that Adams targets. But, you never know.

:dunno:
I like the idea of moving some of the bottom 6 type players up in the line-up. A player like Lafferty or Greenway could add grit to the top 6.

I also like the idea of this bottom 6

Greenway - McLeod - Lafferty
Malenstyn - Sissons - NAK

Probably yes, if we trade Quinn the top 6 forward should return. I think we could get a top 6 forward without trading Quinn, but then there's no place at line up. Or another deal to trade Quinn for a top 4 RD? I don't know.

The challenge with moving Lafferty or Greenway up into the top 6 is that I do not see either of them solving the issues with the 2nd line.

I doubt they have too much of a stomach to break up Peterka-Thompson-Tuch.

And I do not believe that what Greenway or Lafferty bring to the table will get the Cozens line going. NAK didn't add much. I doubt either of them would, either.

Here's what I could see: move McLeod or Greenway into the top 6 just to add either speed or power, depending on who you pick. I'd even consider Lafferty, if you're just looking to add some power as well.

It'd be a playoff move when teams expand out skill onto 3 lines. Adding someone like Sissons could make that possible. I don't see that type of move getting Cozens going or fixing the second line. That'd take a different type of move.

Compete didn't seem to be an issue last evening. That's part of why I don't buy these solutions to what ails the Sabres.

I tend to think that it is a lack of maturity thing and an injury thing that has hampered the team more than Ruff not having them practice hard enough.

I have a feeling that they hang up quick if Adams asks for the moon.

GMs are circling because they hope that Adams will sell low.
Sure, I'm just saying I'd rather be in the position where everyone is circling you than where we have been, with our players not really being in demand and Adams chasing deals and getting nowhere.

I think you make a good deal that helps you any time you can.

Lafferty is good for what he is and what he does but if he is anywhere near your top 6, you are in trouble.

What is everyone’s thoughts on Krebs in the 4th line so far? Is this something you can see being the case long term? Still something to upgrade?

The top 6 issue is tough as the second line of benson, Quinn, cozens are all core pieces you need to have come through. I think trading for a legit top 6 player and pushing Benson down to the AHL is an option considering Quinn/Cozens are stuck on the roster. Not fair to Benson as his game is NHL ready, but he’s only 19 and it’s not like his production is tearing it up.

Our defense still looks discombobulated. As many of us said, Joker is a spot that needs to, and SHOULD HAVE BEEN, upgraded. Power/Dahlin/Byram are all core pieces. Clifton is a fine support player. Samuelsson needs to get is head on straight but also is someone you hang onto. Cut bait with joker and go acquire a player on D

I thought Benson couldn't play in the AHL, or NHL or WHL. And he looks good in the NHL, there's no point in us adding a top 6 F to replace Benson, if that happens it'll be to replace Quinn or Cozens.

There's just no room for Joker right now, Byram - Dahlin are the top pair, Power is playing with Bryson for now, but we've seen Joker with Power before and it didn't work. There are two obvious options to play with Power that might be available, Murphy and Fabbro. Joker could go the other way.

I’m not sure about Benson’s eligibility in the AHL. That’s a good question. But that’s my point though, I really don’t think Cozens or Quinn are going anywhere. It’s selling low on two prized core pieces that are young and have shown potential. These are the types of players you develop

Yup yup, something needs to be done there

Well I'm not saying we should trade them, my message is that Benson is good and should play in the NHL. So if there is a trade, maybe Cozens+ for a better center or Quinn+ for a legit top 6 winger. I think we'll see how they play in the next 3-5 games and then we'll think about it.

no patience ? on our twochilds Brady Quinn and cozens , gonna need them

Benson is lindys ideal second line player and looks necessary to Quinn and cozens playing fearless like himself

Krebs ill shite tight window passer has played fearless and skates back when fooks up all the time and has earned his spot til he hasnt

last game looked like zucker and Benson were our best two complete forwards

love Gilbert out there as policeman w thechook and ranger scum Captain types

Connor Murphy would round out our D perfectly and is signed through next year. I'd offer Joki and a '26 1st (top 3 protected). Plus maybe a lesser prospect like Rousek or McCarthy.

I'd probably give it a couple weeks to see if Cozens/Quinn bounce back before making the offer. If the 2nd line continues to be a black hole, I think you probably have to use assets to fix that first.

We have so many forwards prospects that I would offer Joki + prospect, maybe supplemented with some mid pick depending on the prospect.
