This isn’t a roster thing. He’s just attempting basic math
I never really get people asking moving him to wing his best play in his career was when he was at center not wing.
This isn’t a roster thing. He’s just attempting basic math
The trades that have happened this week have been Utah overpaying for Maata because they had so many injuries on D and Toronto finally moving a guy that has been rumored to be on the block for a while. You know…there’s actually been a couple of trades this week despite this being the NHL where that so rarely happens. He’s quite provably not one of the more active GMs early this year. And while I would like to believe it is true because it might mean there actually is some pressure to win that could carry actual consequences…he’s either known since the last trade deadline that he needed to add a top six forward…and has been failing to do so since…or he’s a tremendous fool who suddenly realized what everyone else in the world already knew. Either way…not a big confidence boost.
32 THOUGHTS
1. Talk has picked up, and will continue to do so. Some of the teams who preached patience are starting to run out of it. And you can see (and feel) the pressure ramping up on the coaches, too.
2. One of the more active early-season general managers is Buffalo’s Kevyn Adams, but he’s made it clear he does not wish to subtract. He’s trying to add.
3. You will not be surprised to hear Colorado is looking for forwards. Need to get through a miserable stretch where five of their top nine are out.
4. As mentioned Saturday, Montreal is looking for edge up front, but not at the expense of any young players/prospects they wish to insert over the next two seasons.
I get what you’re saying but Benson played well on the top line for a short stint. Whenever he gets healthy start him with Cozens line to see if that gives them the spark they need. If not, then swap him with Peterka and see if that gets things going. This is a dangerous road, why change something that works well. There is a risk of getting two bad lines in the top 6 at once, Peterka's energy helps the first line a lot, especially since Touch is not in an optimal state and seems not so fast now, putting the slow Quinn there. Also, Peterka may not help Cozens to understand his cockroaches in his head, although in theory it could work, but I don't want to change the first line.
If Cozens and Quinn can't figure things out in the next few games, then it's up to Adams to make the decision. While Lindy could potentially put one of them in the press box for a few games, that hasn't happened yet.
Well, Benson is not here yet, and I'm not sure that he will play as well as Peterka. To start with, I would just try putting Krebs on the second line and see how it works.I get what you’re saying but Benson played well on the top line for a short stint. A quality top 6 forward likely will not become available until teams feel like they are not making the playoffs and they are going into sell mode early. That rarely happens before Christmas.

Granlund would be an interesting guy to look at as a pending UFA that is playing well, is on a bad team, and plays on a team with a GM that Adams has done work with.
32 Thoughts: Trade talk beginning to pick up across the league
Talk has picked, and it will continue to do so. Some of the teams who preached patience are starting to run out of it. Elliotte Friedman takes a look at that, and other thoughts from around the league.www.sportsnet.ca
Kevyn is on the hunt, I think there are already teams that could shake up the roster a bit (Islanders, Philly, Pittsburgh in the East). It's more difficult in the west, maybe Calgary would have players available if it seems like they are formally rebuilding, Nashville maybe, but I'm not sure. Anaheim with a potential trade of Zegras or Vatrano. Plus the previously mentioned Granlund from San Jose, an experienced guy, a good playmaker who can play both center and wing.
For you no, but for me it might be. I'm just looking at options that might be available.Zegras is a big no to me; his style and persona just screams not the type of player we want nor need.

Zegras is a good playmaker and a creative player, we lack that in terms of skills. He has no problem with attitude, he is friendly. Now as I understand he is playing on the wing and improving his game in defense (I read this on the Ducks board). I do not see any problems with Zegras.

I wouldn't say that he got totally fleeced in the McLeod and Byram deals and while the Malenstyn trade was a bit of an overpay, I get why he did it.The only thing more terrifying than Kevyn doing nothing is him actually making a trade because you know he's going to get totally fleeced.
Why does he have to be fleeced? I don't think all of Adams' trades were robberies, there were some good ones in terms of value or where he overpaid a little, though there were some weird ones and some bad ones. My main beef with Adams is his lack of action or not doing enough work in the offseason. The only thing more terrifying than Kevyn doing nothing is him actually making a trade because you know he's going to get totally fleeced.
Why? Just an option, since the second line is not working now, and I would not like to change the first and third lines. If you resort to giving Krebs second line minutes you might as well consider the season done.
So I'm writing to you on the contrary that he started improving in defense last season and is working on it now. This doesn't sound like a lazy guy who doesn't want anything and will only play the way he played in college. At the cost required, he becomes untouchable. Guy plays lazy defensively and has massively underperformed the past two years.
Probably yes, but sometimes it happens. Nelson seems like an interesting option from Islanders. Philly could have Farabee, Pens could have Bunting or Rakell, I don't know what Dubas and Danny are thinking,The Isles and Pens have given out a lot of NTC/NMCs and that might make a deal next to impossible with those two teams.
He sure looked like a low effort guy in the Isles game the other day.So I'm writing to you on the contrary that he started improving in defense last season and is working on it now. This doesn't sound like a lazy guy who doesn't want anything and will only play the way he played in college.
Trevor Zegras, Ducks
Guys, I’m starting to think that dangling your one-time franchise player’s name in trade rumors for roughly 18 straight months might not be the best possible thing for a young player’s development. But hey, maybe the market will finally materialize after he finishes the 20-point season he’s currently on pace for.
Good
I think we all knew McLeod was taking over 2nd line C. He's the best option. Krebs is getting his shot. I'm a bit concerned about that line. I like Zucker, but Quinn is a black hole, and Im still iffy on Krebs at 3C, but they have to try something.I see the standings have shifted back to what we're used to - Buffalo tied for last in the division. The only surprise at the moment is that the Bruins are in that four-way tie with them.
Ruff trying to get something working on the 2nd line:
Anyone else catch the clip of Greenway talking to Tage at center ice as practice was ending?
Tage said something along the lines of:
"That's how you f***ing work. We play every game with that energy, and no one is f***ing touching us"
Greenway could barely breathe and was soaking his head with water, but nodded in agreement.
The energy of this squad is different than last year. They did not back down from Florida physically or in ratness. Ruff putting the 4th line out at the end of the second do rattle the boards was a good play. A majority of the team has bought into playing hard.
I just think of when Lafferty signed, and told Ruff he wants to see the entire team play physical. And, to be fair, a lot of guys are giving way more effort on both sides of the puck.
I can get behind a team like that if they continue that style of play. If they can get the special teams and goaltending figured out, I think theyre a playoff team. If they can also get 2nd line production from Cozen's line, then we could be even better.
Atleast I don't feel annoyed watching them like last season. They're more likeable this year for sure, but the season's long, so keep at it!

True, and if Quinn cant remove his head from his ass Benson is taking that spot when healthy, and then it suddenly looks like a solid 3rd line if Krebs continues progressing. Kulich waiting in the ranks, too. I've liked his compete level. If Krebs plays up to how he's been playing and Zucker continues to do what he's been doing, I think it might be able to cover for Quinn's faltering start. It was about time to split up Cozens and Quinn.
