He'll have a chance but it's hard to say.

There are 5 spots on D that are probably locks (Bonk. Molendyk, Yakemchuk, Dickinson, Parekh) of which only two are LD like Mynio (Molendyk, Dickinson).

However, politics always plays into this and a guy like Etienne Morin who is a similar-level LD prospect might have an advantage because they always want to get some QMJHL representation on the team (and people from that league push for it) and he's one of the few guys from the Q that would fit as an option.

A Nucks pick outside the 1st round that had no hype and is a defenseman making the Canadian WJ team based on merit?

When, if ever, has that happened before?
Brent Tully?

Difference being Tully looked the part had projectable skill but was a slug. Mynio's skating is pretty much NHL level at 19

Morin is a horrible defensive player though.

Oh, I'm not saying it's the right call. It's just that politically there always has to be a couple QMJHL players on the team and even though it's absolutely barren from that league right now there are only a couple options and Morin is one of them. He's one of only 3 QMJHL players taken in the top 2 rounds in the past two drafts. Spencer Gill is another but he's an RD and the team is deeper at RD.

Sam Dickinson and Tanner Molendyk are locks for top4 in all likelihood

(17 yr old) Matt Schaefer is probably a favourite for a roster spot if he can handle a 3rd pair role. Hockey Canada always likes a little bit of a succession plan and the next generation to hype.

Caden Price from what i gather seems to be the favourite. I like Mynio better as a prospect but Price's productivity in Kelowna will make it hard for Mynio given he's on a weak Seattle squad and the hockey card stats will largely favour Price who is also teammates and presumably friends with Iginla and Cristall.

Tristan Bertucci - Quinton Burns (OHL) - Etienne Morin (QMJHL) are also considerations probably in this order but we'll see....It's not likely that's for sure

They've normally been a lot leerier about 17 y/o D than forwards, though. 00

That's a legit nice goal.

I love the passion fans and keyboard scouts nowadays have for prospects and picks from the 3rd round on. Reminds me of how upset I was when the Canucks missed out on Boris Fistric from the New West Bruins by one lousy pick, or when they selected Leif Rohlin in the 2nd round over Link Gaetz.

Hell, I was even convinced Art Rutland, who had played with Wayne Gretzky and then Paul Coffey in the Soo, was going to put up a ton of points on a line with Billy Derlago.

Alriksson does it again and scores his 5th goal of the season , 14 points in 16 games . Being a potential point per game player over a full 68 game season isn’t out of the question
Arliksson appears to be building off of his strong camp with the Canucks. Looks like he took a season the OHL to adjust to the smaller ice; but you'd expect him to be a ppg player as a 19-year old.

Considering he only had 33 points last season , I’m more than ok with the way he is playing right now and the progression

The Van scouts still seem to have a very clear direction of drafting shooters. It would be nice if the Canucks got some forwards that are very good puck handlers and passers to set up these the shooters.
Maybe it's just the camera angle, but to me Fernstrom looks a lot bigger in those highlights than when he was drafted last spring.

I guess the fact that he's even able to hold down a regular spot in the SHL as a teenager has to be encouraging. Is he even a consideration for Sweden's World Jr. Team, or is he out of the running?

Does look like he's stronger on his skates. There might be a chance?

If you're looking for positives amidst some of the gloom around the Canucks, I can easily see scenario where Lekkerimaki, Wilander, Pettersson II, and of course Raty are all in the lineup by March for the parent Canucks.

Having trouble recalling any time in the last decade and probably even longer, when the Canucks would have had four kids 22 or younger knocking down the door to NHL employment.

And that's what a contender needs. Not just young kids who get called up for a game or two, but young talented prospects who are real candidates to dislodge a veteran from NHL employment or better still, a potential trade.

Every time I think BU has gotten over the jitters to finally win a weekend series opening game then they disappoint me

I liked Willanders defending on this goal. great stick defending the pass to the slot, all to the outside.

his franking teammates all collapse beneath the Hashes puck watching instead of picking up a guy. He has his defender. Everybody else? not so much

18-19? 20-21? 21-22?

His size is interesting. Elite Prospects had him at 6’0 187lbs in their draft guide but right after he was drafted he was reported as 6’2. I pointed that out here as well.

So the perception, initially, was that he was an average-sized guy but he’s actually got a decent frame on him. A lot more intriguing if he can bulk up.
