A Nucks pick outside the 1st round that had no hype and is a defenseman making the Canadian WJ team based on merit?
When, if ever, has that happened before?

You knew that off the top of your head, right? (Don't dare disillusion me.)Probably have to go back to the early 2000s, when late round pick (7th round, 208th overall) Brandon Reid played for Team Canada.

Morin is a horrible defensive player though. He'll have a chance but it's hard to say.
There are 5 spots on D that are probably locks (Bonk. Molendyk, Yakemchuk, Dickinson, Parekh) of which only two are LD like Mynio (Molendyk, Dickinson).
However, politics always plays into this and a guy like Etienne Morin who is a similar-level LD prospect might have an advantage because they always want to get some QMJHL representation on the team (and people from that league push for it) and he's one of the few guys from the Q that would fit as an option.

Sam Dickinson and Tanner Molendyk are locks for top4 in all likelihoodOh, I'm not saying it's the right call. It's just that politically there always has to be a couple QMJHL players on the team and even though it's absolutely barren from that league right now there are only a couple options and Morin is one of them. He's one of only 3 QMJHL players taken in the top 2 rounds in the past two drafts. Spencer Gill is another but he's an RD and the team is deeper at RD.

(17 yr old) Matt Schaefer is probably a favourite for a roster spot if he can handle a 3rd pair role. Hockey Canada always likes a little bit of a succession plan and the next generation to hype.
Caden Price from what i gather seems to be the favourite. I like Mynio better as a prospect but Price's productivity in Kelowna will make it hard for Mynio given he's on a weak Seattle squad and the hockey card stats will largely favour Price who is also teammates and presumably friends with Iginla and Cristall.
Tristan Bertucci - Quinton Burns (OHL) - Etienne Morin (QMJHL) are also considerations probably in this order but we'll see....It's not likely that's for sure
If we aren’t going defensemen then Gadjovich fits the bill.Probably have to go back to the early 2000s, when late round pick (7th round, 208th overall) Brandon Reid played for Team Canada.
Jesus I forgot that Gadjovich is both a WJHC and Stanley Cup Champion. If we aren’t going defensemen then Gadjovich fits the bill.
Arliksson appears to be building off of his strong camp with the Canucks. Looks like he took a season the OHL to adjust to the smaller ice; but you'd expect him to be a ppg player as a 19-year old.Alriksson does it again and scores his 5th goal of the season , 14 points in 16 games . Being a potential point per game player over a full 68 game season isn’t out of the question

Maybe it's just the camera angle, but to me Fernstrom looks a lot bigger in those highlights than when he was drafted last spring. The Van scouts still seem to have a very clear direction of drafting shooters. It would be nice if the Canucks got some forwards that are very good puck handlers and passers to set up these the shooters.
Does look like he's stronger on his skates. There might be a chance?Maybe it's just the camera angle, but to me Fernstrom looks a lot bigger in those highlights than when he was drafted last spring.
I guess the fact that he's even able to hold down a regular spot in the SHL as a teenager has to be encouraging. Is he even a consideration for Sweden's World Jr. Team, or is he out of the running?
If you're looking for positives amidst some of the gloom around the Canucks, I can easily see scenario where Lekkerimaki, Wilander, Pettersson II, and of course Raty are all in the lineup by March for the parent Canucks.
Having trouble recalling any time in the last decade and probably even longer, when the Canucks would have had four kids 22 or younger knocking down the door to NHL employment.
And that's what a contender needs. Not just young kids who get called up for a game or two, but young talented prospects who are real candidates to dislodge a veteran from NHL employment or better still, a potential trade.
