He'll have a chance but it's hard to say.

There are 5 spots on D that are probably locks (Bonk. Molendyk, Yakemchuk, Dickinson, Parekh) of which only two are LD like Mynio (Molendyk, Dickinson).

However, politics always plays into this and a guy like Etienne Morin who is a similar-level LD prospect might have an advantage because they always want to get some QMJHL representation on the team (and people from that league push for it) and he's one of the few guys from the Q that would fit as an option.

A Nucks pick outside the 1st round that had no hype and is a defenseman making the Canadian WJ team based on merit?

When, if ever, has that happened before?
Brent Tully?

Difference being Tully looked the part had projectable skill but was a slug. Mynio's skating is pretty much NHL level at 19

Morin is a horrible defensive player though.

Oh, I'm not saying it's the right call. It's just that politically there always has to be a couple QMJHL players on the team and even though it's absolutely barren from that league right now there are only a couple options and Morin is one of them. He's one of only 3 QMJHL players taken in the top 2 rounds in the past two drafts. Spencer Gill is another but he's an RD and the team is deeper at RD.

Sam Dickinson and Tanner Molendyk are locks for top4 in all likelihood

(17 yr old) Matt Schaefer is probably a favourite for a roster spot if he can handle a 3rd pair role. Hockey Canada always likes a little bit of a succession plan and the next generation to hype.

Caden Price from what i gather seems to be the favourite. I like Mynio better as a prospect but Price's productivity in Kelowna will make it hard for Mynio given he's on a weak Seattle squad and the hockey card stats will largely favour Price who is also teammates and presumably friends with Iginla and Cristall.

Tristan Bertucci - Quinton Burns (OHL) - Etienne Morin (QMJHL) are also considerations probably in this order but we'll see....It's not likely that's for sure

They've normally been a lot leerier about 17 y/o D than forwards, though. 00

That's a legit nice goal.

I love the passion fans and keyboard scouts nowadays have for prospects and picks from the 3rd round on. Reminds me of how upset I was when the Canucks missed out on Boris Fistric from the New West Bruins by one lousy pick, or when they selected Leif Rohlin in the 2nd round over Link Gaetz.

Hell, I was even convinced Art Rutland, who had played with Wayne Gretzky and then Paul Coffey in the Soo, was going to put up a ton of points on a line with Billy Derlago.
