Gawd I hope these two justify there draft position and become stars, hate that neither will help the team for at best 3 years. BAGM is gambling the team success and his future of ever being a GM on these getting out of russia and being near par for michkov, benson, leonard etc. He has had 5x 1st picks in last two drafts and 4 have been considered reaches.

Looking at our competitive set... Buffalo and Chicago have really taken in the philosophy of just taking the most skilled player the last couple of drafts, vs us passing on more sexy options to prioritize size. Nazar, Bedard, and Moore for Chicago, they are on paper really good. But that's not a lot of size in close proximity. Buffalo has plenty of size on their NHL team, but Savoie and Benson (as awesome as he seems) now back to back, that's really doubling down on the same player. Will be interesting to see if BA's obsession plays out. Or if picking the most skilled guy like the other teams would have been better.

I highly doubt all 4 pan out, but this is 4 swings BA's taken in the first round in a row. Geekier, Lameroux, Simashev, and But. If even 2/4 hit on their ceiling, it will be a huge win. 3 or 4? We'll be a terror to play against. As long as Cooley stays on track of course.

The scouting team's track record in later rounds to find other solid players to fill in whichever of our big swings inevitably miss makes me feel pretty good that we will be fine. Moser was such a solid pickup, Szuber also looks way ahead of schedule. And you feel at least a few your Lutz, Duda, Langois, Down, Fedotov, +tons of others to come are going to hit their ceilings as well. We're going to have a ton of depth. I am distinctly remembering after the 15 draft wondering where we are going to fit all these star prospects. Domi, Strome, Duclair, Perlini, Reider, Dvorak, Lessio, Merkley, Dauphin.... Wow not a single one of them really turned into a difference maker. That's where this management group is different. They know how to pick and how to develop. They're going to consistently pull quality at a decent hit rate.

Just to confirm, our two new Russian prospects are under contract for the next two seasons. I suppose that only changes if their team releases them, but why would they?

Well, those are two "homerun" swings at the plate...I just wish they could have parlayed pick #6 with Michkov still on the board to scare Philly or Washington and do a trade, move down 1 or 2 spots, still get Simashev and pick up another asset.

Yep. Those dudes have watched a ton of USHL, NCAA, MHL, KHL, Allsvenskan SHL and CHL games. So they DEFINITELY know that these were not the right picks. Not only have the watched them play a ton but they also actually know what they’re looking at when they scout. Lots of professionals out there on the main boards. Lol.

Guess how many Yaroslavl games I caught this season? Yep. Zip. Nada. Just like 98% of the people who are having those opinions out there. Lol.
At this point it doesn’t even matter who the Yotes draft. The main boards always hate on the Yotes lol. They are also a bunch of random people who watch a couple of highlight videos on YouTube and think they can evaluate talent.

There was plenty of disrespect thrown at the Coyotes on the Canadian broadcast last night.

-tried to use our arena situation to explain our scouts picks
-made fun of the suits - said they looked like used car salesmen - said they hoped the team covered the cost
-no interviews for our picks
-showed a Plandowski name bar for Guttierez

Lol yea for a country that loves the game of hockey as much as they do… they sure seem to want it to fail in a market with huge potential. Never quite understood the Yotes hate

I am wondering how much of this is political….I don’t mean political like Russia , US, I mean political like scout wise, different ranking companies.. maybe like a little scouting mafia lol.
It almost seems like some teams just go out and wait for so and so’s final rankings to be published, and just follow that. Especially the way some media folks dissed the picks right off the bat..

BAs comments about ”we will pick who we want and nobody will stop us “ makes me wonder..I could be out to lunch.

It seemed the big named scouting companies had these guys low , but the small one man type of rankings had them higher..

I could be out to lunch.. ok tin foil hat is off

I always thought it was strange that NHL Central Scouting doesn't compile a consolidated list but separate lists for NA and international. The teams must assemble a consolidated list, so why doesn't central scouting? Do they keep separate lists to avoid pissing off the Canadians by showing European kids ahead of "good Canadian boys?"

How reliable is central scouting, anyway? Hopefully, not at all, based on what transpired.

They had But ahead of Simashev.

Some intriguing names on the board:
Dragicevic
Strbak
Sawchyn
Heidt
Gauthier
Brzustewicz
Rehkopf
Morin
Myatovic
Halttunen
Lind
Ziemmer

U can buy yourself out of a contract.
It seems to me that Loko is a great place for them to develop for a couple of years, though. Might as well let them stay. Unless things deteriorate politically.

It was pretty apparent we knew going in who we were walking out with tonight. Vonte Mack no matter what. I respect that philosophy. We will judge them harshly if it doesn’t pan out but if we were Detroit everyone would be calling Steve Yzerman a genius.

Kinda fun to take two gigantic homerun swings like this. Especially since we’ve got a scouting team with a great reputation.
Maybe they seem that way to you and I but I don't think BA has that view.

They kind of went off the board this year as well, in our eyes anyway.

You almost need to make two lists. One separate for Russians and another for everyone else. The issue was how to incorporate the two lists together given the political bs. I failed on this badly but am happy i had them at least on my list because i saw the upside and thought they were the types of players our organization needed. I just chickened out at putting either Simashev or But where i thought they should be on talent.

I love these picks because BA and the scouts picked these players. Name me two teams who have better scouts. Name me two teams who have better management team. We have who's who of managers on our team. We have who's who of scouts and we have the former top scout of Cup Champs St. Louis Blues.

So..the so called pundits like Megan Chayka or anyone else you want to throw in there have crystal balls? People said the same thing when Yotes selected Blake Wheeler at 5 overall.

I trust these guys selected who they wanted at those slots and executed their plan. Who cares what we think??? And they don't care what the "pundits" think..because BA and crew are the pundits.

Can anyone really say the on ice product is going in the wrong direction and think about what players are coming. Go BA!!!
We as fans really don't have a clue when it comes to these prospects, and many times these kids fool the so called experts. The draft is a crap shoot at the best of times. All we can do is hope and pray.
