The last great scorer we had was Vrana. Not a coincidence the team’s production nosedived when he left. Would have thought that would be a sign to load up on some scorers.

@SantosHalper maybe not drafting USDP players was purely a coincidence and there wasn’t some conspiracy level reasoning for it at after all.

We drafted 2 this year out of 5 picks so far.

The fact that they traded back 4 spots and gained essentially nothing is really telling. It means that they did not have a good plan going into this draft. They had over 12 hours to digest how the first round played out, examine who was left on their draft board and think about who was likely to be available at their picks. For someone as determined to get his guy even if it looks like a reach (Seider, Danielson) as Yzerman is, that is really damning.

Or, hang with me for a second, maybe they have a plan that they like and put into place. Just because you don't agree with what they are doing doesn't mean they have no plan or are doing it wrong.

Honestly, I'm disappointed with the selections but I will say this:

- This group has done an amazing job drafting the last four years, and if they think these are the guys, they deserve the benefit of the doubt. There are gripes and rage over every pick over the last four years and despite having preferences, they've built up and unbelievable pipe and often times a lot of these takes end up looking super silly in 18 months

- Collectively, 3 out of our last 6 1st Rd picks: (Danielson, Kasper, Raymond / Sandin-Pellika Edvinsson, Cossa) have been forwards. It's not like we haven't invested in talent up front. We have. Its just two of them haven't gotten there yet.

And passed on Danny Nelson for them! Watch Danny Nelson morph into a Brock f***ing Nelson clone and we get a defense version of Givani Smith and a guy most scouts are saying has cookie cutter backup goalie potential.

Perhaps you’d like to reply with actual discussion points that arent just appeals to authority. Yes, NHL teams get it right, but they also often get it wrong and the fans were right. Just saying “I trust them” is a trash argument.
