I am too but there are some dead contracts on D down there (Hirose, maybe Brisebois) and I guess they have to move on on some guys.

Benjamin Brunelle is by far the most interesting name there - 6’4, 41 ES points in the Q last year, plus skater.
The USHL guys are so pointless - it’ll be 4-5 years before they actually sign an NHL contract, if ever.

Watched some interviews from day 2, man Tom Willander is just such a great interview. At 19 or whatever speaking in a second language incredibly articulate and thoughtful. He honestly reminde me of Draisaitl like that.
Hope he has a huge year and works on the offensive side of his game, this (possibly) last year in college will be the last time he gets to wheel and deal against a lower level of competition and where he has more freedom to make mistakes; make the most of it.
And yeah the NCAA bound prospect invites are always a little frustrating. I remember how we invited Brandon Tanev like 4 or 5 years running because of Chris and then when he finally morphed into an actual prospect at the age of 23-24 he f***in signed with the Jets, like wtf man

Canucks Army has a piece up on the first day of Canuck Development Camp.....the early standouts were Wilander, Riley Patterson and Jeff Bloom.
Their skating was a cut above just about everyone else on the ice. Hoping that Bloom can have a bounce-back season and be a real contributor in Abbotsford.

Sansonnens looks like he skates well for a big man.
Dave seems to be getting those Faber rose coloured glasses on for certain prospects though. Faber would interview guys then be a big fan after if he liked them and the reviews were always very glowing about the player after that. Pretty much all got traded or amounted to nothing in the NHL.

I lost all respect in faber after he dubbed podkolzin "Russian messier".
It wasn't just Faber......Igor Larionov who coached him at the U-18's and in the KHL also compared him to Messier.
Just goes to show how quickly top-10 draft picks can age out and turn into fourth line muckers and grinders rather than HOF's like Messier.

Yeah fingers crossed because if he figured things out that make managements life a lot easier. I wish the kid well I've just never seen "it" from him.
I much appreciate the realistic views and expectations for prospects here. The other board I used to frequent was basically a big circle jerk to anyone drafted by the Canucks.
Last board I was on it was either NHL star if they liked the prospect or he was an AHL lifer, if they disliked the prospect. Nothing in-between.
There are the occasional cases of
Verhaeghe's who didn't play an NHL game till 24 where he had 13 points in 52 games.
Hyman had 6 points in 16 games at 23 years old.
Vatrano played a couple half seasons at 21-22-23 finally at 24 after being traded played a full season and went .5 ppg.

The real lesson from Florida's win, I think, is that one's NHL career really starts at 23. Reinhart, Bennett, Montour, Forsling, Verhaeghe etc had all been dealt by at least one NHL org around that age. If you're elite like Barkov or early career OEL then 18-23 will be a productive time for you, but not always.
Podkolzin just turned 23 in June. The 3 I listed above all were dealt. Maybe Podz needs a fresh start.

That's great news—much prefer him being in a CHL program for the next 3 years as he seems very raw and needs the ice time and the rope to learn, similar to how Klimovich needed to play in the CHL (but didn't).
This has to be the worst, if not one of the worst set of forwards prospects in the league right?
It gets better here as I have Willander at my top overall Canucks prospect and I think EP 2.0 might become a useful player but if Jett Woo is your 3rd best guy...yikes
We are better here but a team can only play one goalie at a time.

Another year in the OHL for Vilmer after a meh 1st year.
Hoping the muscle he put on can help him just ragdoll his way in the 2nd year.

These are your 2020's draftees. The Canucks have not had many in the 202X's
2020 1st and 2nd traded for Miller and Toffoli. Jurmo gone in Lindholm trade but didn't project anymore.
2021 1st and 3rd traded for OEL/Garland and Dickinson. Klim, going overseas
2022 1st Lekky, 2nd traded for OEL/Garland and 3rd was D Petey
2023 1st Wallinder, 2nd traded Hronek, 3rd was Bruz who was dealt for Lindholm
2024 1st dealt for Lindholm, 2nd dealt to dump Dickinson, 3rd was Fernstrom
15 possible draft picks and only Petey, Wallinder and Fernstrom were there. Explains why it's overall weak.
Fernstrom is a pure scoring offensive player. He reminds me a lot of Jack Quinn . He can wire the puck with his wrist shot , can unleash a powerful one time and slap shot, can score from almost anywhere on the ice , is a great passer , has outstanding playmaking abilities , and can create space for his teammates to get open when he has the puck that can lead to scoring chances
Our Development staff are more than capable of helping him get over the hump and improve the deficiencies in his game ie ( His play away from the puck , motor , and two way game etc) .
Once overcomes those deficiencies and becomes a better two way player . He will blossom and become a solid player with top 6 potential in the NHL one day .
I feel we may have a steal on our hands and I still cannot believe he fell too 93

Heck it’s going to be alot of fun covering the OHL this season with Alriksson , Patterson and Romani all there .
If he could skate, he is probably taken first half of the 2nd round like the rest of Swedish junior players do, who are topping the scoring chart. Like Linus Karlsson who can't skate either, fell to 87 to Ottawa.
