I think the organization just really wanted to give those minutes to Sergachev and felt they could replace McDonagh's defensive duties cheaply. His 5v5 play is not what it used to be

And it's really been two tough off-seasons in a row with losing Gourde, Coleman, Goodrow, and Johnson last year. Now it's McDonagh, Rutta, and unless a miracle happens, Palat.

That's a bunch of turnover from the Cup winning teams.

Stastny, Marchment, Strome, Kubalik, Perron, all preferred over Names. I guess between guys like Cole, Kulak, De Haan it wasn't a big difference, but the offense looks so much worse.
