Besides goal scoring, our biggest issue was Defense / Team Defense. Hedman hasn't looked right since the injury in 2021. With McDonagh gone Hedman gets the #1 matchups.

If tampa wants to go far it all rests on him getting back to Peak Hedman. If not.....welp....

Team defense can be solved systematically and being more disciplined, it'll be harder but lots of cup winning teams don't even have a Hedman let alone a McDonagh. If the Caps and Pens can win with Letang and Carlson doing the heavy lifting I don't see an excuse with Hedman, Serg, Cernak. The big guys are getting paid now so there's more responsibility on them also.

We're going to need significant improvement from guys like Colton and Hagel to be an elite team next year, I'm afraid. Both of those guys are going into their third year, which is usually the year players realize their potential. How they play (along with Cirelli and newly re-signed Paul) is going to go a long way in determining the quality of this team.
