This offseason has been horrible.
Other than the whole "well it was the right thing to do due to the flat cap" argument, does anyone want to steel-man how this has been at best a decent offseason for us?

One can only hope. They could still get decent value and have 4.9 to.work with for this year. It won't happen though.
Agreed. Would have been perfect to ship out Killer and sign Vatrano
This season and next are gonna be about retooling imo.
Unless there are some crazy shenanigan's with Killer I don't see any major pieces coming our way this year.

Yeah, I think this could've gone better. The confusing part is with JBB saying he believes our window is still open, where do these moves fit in? Clear downgrades across the board, even when it comes to character. Not that he has full control, guys have to want to come here for what we're willing/capable of offering.

The only good news is that both Cole and Names contracts expires after next season.
That's for sure that, next year won't be our year.
Should be fairly obvious by now that these guys are all signing with us because they were willing to take 1 year deals, which elevated their AAV slightly too.

Even if you didn't ship Killorn out, you could have them both this year if we got 2m LHD instead.

If this is the case then it makes sense to trade Stamkos, and with these moves I wouldn't be surprised if he felt the same way.

That's assuming they make the playoffs. The Atlantic is only getting better and Tampa has little depth. One major injury and it's no given.

Then why say the window hasn't closed? Why not prepare the fanbase for the inevitable retool? Sure it wouldn't be what the fanbase wants to hear but at least it would be honest.
Unfortunately it looks like all of these one year deals and Killer with one year left is in preparation for our RFA's getting big pay day contracts
