Ok, so something is up. There are some pieces or one big one that has to be on the way out. Can't fill out a roster with this.

Thoughts?
Gotta be Stammer, gonna keep saying it. We sure as hell aren't moving Kuch, Point, Vasy, or Hedman. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see both Stammer and Killorn playing elsewhere in the next couple of months.

Literally floored Sergachev got that deal when the team is literally hoping he can take the next step forward. He hasn't even shown he can handle the extra workload yet. Why not wait until some point during the upcoming season to assess what his number should be? Did BriseBois think he was somehow going to command more than that because he is going to contend for the Norris? And for 8 freaking years. Now the player has no incentive other than his own personal accountability, and I don’t know where Serge falls on that scale.

I am not a fan of long term deals in first place unless you can at least justify a nice team friendly cap hit. You would think these flat cap years would make the GMs more cautious, but hell no, apparently.

Welp.......JBB doesn't know how to sign reasonable contracts, my god. No hometown discount at all

Anyone else feel like we should have kept McDonagh and traded away Sergachev?
JBB was Yzerman’s cap and contracts guy.

It seems now that everybody has their rings they want their money too. This is what teams worry about. The goal should be going to the finals every year, and collectively everyone taking a little bit less to keep this group together as best as you can. Instead Rutta and Palat are testing the market and Cernak, Cirelli, and Serg are getting paid. Don’t blame any of them, but obviously this isn’t the mindset the team had post 2015 run

I know he negotiated the contracts but the mandates were different, we had a lot of contract disputes under Yzerman, who seemed to stick to his guns more often than not on what we would accept.

So as it sits right now, the cap next year will be 83.5m. we have 10.4m to sign Colton, Foote, and a bunch of AHL guys. assuming guys like Ryfors, Fortier, Koepke, and Perbix take 900k on their next deals, it would leave 3m to bring in a forward and depth dman.
Lines would look something like this:

Hagel-Point-Kuch
Koepke-Cirelli-Stamkos
Colton-Paul-Fortier
Maroon-Ryfors-X

Hedman-Foote
Sergy-Cernak
X-Perbix/Bogo

Vasy
Alnefelt

Well this locks in JBB's core. Seems like the plan is to fill out the 3rd and 4th lines is to pick up cheap players on 1-2 year deals at the deadline.
But who's filling in the top 6 next year? Killorn out (which is fine, but who's ready to step in?), and we're still down a top 6 this season.
