Nope. Chevy pissed in it last night.
Really hope I'm wrong but we got a reach and a high risk swing for the fences.
Some here are overjoyed with these 2 picks. I'm not.
Honestly I don’t care for the 1st pick I hope it works I absolutely loved Lambert for a30th Ovr he could be a masssive steal

Majority of these guys are what? Borderline nhl or third pair potential? Don't think either samberg or heinola have top pair 1D potential samberg is in draft+6 with 15 nhl games under his belt and heinola is used sparingly when there's injury. How does this rank among other nhl teams?

I'm not the right guy to ask, but, I'm sure someone on here has an opinion. :thumbu:

chevy also said 2 days ago when talking about russian's in the draft that somebody they had rated "so high"(chibrikov) fell to them they just had to take them, my guess is they also had lambert rated much higher than those d so they had to take him

Oh no doubt. He was rated much higher earlier. He fell a long way because of a very poor draft year season. That applies to us as much as it does to the 29 other teams that passed on him. So he is suspect for that and then there are the intangible, character, attitude, parental interference, etc. It is those intangibles that had him on my do not draft list more than the poor season he had.

He managed 5 points in 2 games in the cancelled WJC so that is a positive. If the off ice issues have been exaggerated, then he is a steal. We will see in 3-5 years.

My view so far:

McGroarty: Still am lukewarm on this pick. He seems to be pretty safe in terms of floor and brings things we can use. Potential Hyman type complimentary top 6 imo. A very useful player but I generally like to go for upside in round 1.

Lambert: Boom/bust pick. Skating and skill are there to be an impact top 6 player. It will be up to him to prove the doubters wrong. Biggest issue is hockey sense but could be s darn good player if he can put things together.

Salomonsson: excellent skating puck retrieving and puck moving RD with some snarl and solid defense. Offense is the question with him but has the tools to be a physical two-way puck moving dmen. Real good pick imo.

Zhilkin: A good skating center with size and skill. Needs more consistency in his game and needs to get to the center more. Should be noted he was one of the players who missed all of last year which may have impacted this season. Real good pick here ad he has middle 6 center Potential if he can gain consistency. Potential Copp type.

Brown: Very meh pick. A big mediocre defensive dmen with incredibly limited upside. Not a fan of these types of picks.

Wagner: A good skating winger with a solid overall game and some skill. Another potential middle 6 forward. Good pick.

No clue on our goalie pick lol

In the end I think it was a good draft for the Jets. I like the mix and upside for the most part.

All in all, pretty pleased with this draft. Liked our first 4 picks, really didn't like our 5th, liked the 6th and 7th.

Pretty much my thoughts.

I get that, but our prospect pool is missing star defensive prospects and I don't think there were any at 14 because Korchinski, Mateychuk, and Mintyukov were all gone. And then at 30 I don't see any of those guys with top pairing potential so I'm okay with adding forward depth as we do have some good defensive depth in the pipeline already.

You can find depth RHD in free agency or via trade so if they don't knock your socks off in the draft I'm okay drafting a different position if we have that player higher. Time will tell if passing on Luneau or Chesley at 30 was a mistake, but I don't believe we can know that today. Unless someone builds a time machine and goes 20 years into the future to let us know.

Also, I would've been okay with Brennan, I just think there were better skaters available because I don't see starting potential from any of the goalies in this draft. If we take a goalie we like late I'll be fine with it.

No, I don't think there were any really good D at 14, but then we didn't take a really good F at 14 either. Chesley and Luneau might project to 2nd pair, but possibly 1st depending on development.

On the right side D we have Gawanke and that's about it. I had hopes for Kovy as a solid 3rd pair guy but there is no sign that Jets are interested in him so far.

Even 2nd pair RHD are extremely hard to get in FA or trade. Or else Chevy is really dropping the ball. Our best RHD is a defence only guy who really should be on the 3rd pair on a good team.

Of course we can't know today who will be what in 3-5 years. But we have information on all of these guys. This is about how that information is being evaluated and analyzed.

After our pick at 55 it becomes extremely unlikely that any skater makes the NHL and if they do, they are depth players. There is nothing to lose by taking a goalie at 77, or at 99. Getting even an AHL goalie in the 6th or 7th rds, especially in a draft class weak at the position, is extremely unlikely - unless we could have still got Brennan there, but that boat sailed.

You never watched Perfetti in the A then. If his team mates could score he likely has double his points. He really was putting it together last year.

Honestly watching him in the NHL if Dubois and Connor put the puck in the next with all the grade A chances he was setting up he likely has a dozen more points.

Don't stat line judge players with out long term eyetests

Fair enough. He LOOKED better than his stats.
But he hasn't done it until he has done it. It isn't like he didn't have capable linemates.

Right now, I am a little concerned about his durability. His injury STILL isn't healed well enough to let him play in the WJC.

Don't worry, you'll feel much better in a couple of years when you can crap all over these picks with your usual 20/20 hindsight.

 Are you being sarcastic, or do you really not know what hindsight means?
