Way way too early to say that.

And yet, it is not too early for some to be gushing over the picks.

It is just opinions at this stage on any of these players.

I see a physical 3rd line winger in McGroarty and a never ending attitude problem with Lambert.

I wanted at least one of Chesley and Luneau. Both were still available at 30. I think we should have taken a goalie at 77.

You have to think that the Jets scheduled goalie pick is coming up soon as well.

It's okay to gush about the picks (or to criticize them) now but you can't say we would've better off trading them because a) we don't know what the return would be and b) we don't know if trading these players for this hypothetical unknown is worth it as these kids haven't developed yet.

I have a different philosophy for the draft where I always go BPA so I'm not too annoyed at Chesley or Luneau.

Also, personalyl I wouldn't draft a goalie this early this year because none of them are very good IMO but I can understand people wanting another bullet in the chamber so to speak given our goalie pipeline isn't so hot

My opinion on Lambert is this:

1) With a 2nd first rounder, taking the risk on his talent is fine. It's easy to say that we would've been better off trading it, but we don't know what the return would've been so that's not a fair criticism, to me.
2) I'll like it a lot more if he comes over to Seattle in the WHL next season instead of staying in Finland. He said he's open to whatever the Jets suggest for him and I have to think they'd suggest that. Seattle should be in the championship conversation again this year so that's a good place for him to develop, I think.

As for McGroarty and skating, that's what was said about Perfetti and Lucius.

Wheeler likes McGroarty as well.

I don't like either pick. The value exceeds what Habs paid for Dach. Not that that is what I would have done, but it would have been better than what we did. IMO

I don't think playing a season or 2 in the dub is going to turn him into a different person. We have to hope that dropping so far below his expectations will do that, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, it is what was said about Perfetti and Lucius. And I don't like it. Skating is the single most important part of playing hockey. Neither Perfetti nor Lucius has proven otherwise yet.

Hope they prove me wrong, but I am not enjoying this draft.

The last couple of picks, Salomonsen and Zhilkin look like pretty good value where they were taken but they are late enough that the odds of them making the NHL, much less becoming impact players, are pretty poor.

That's not great point production for a draft year.
I'm convinced that there is someone in that room during the draft every year who pipes up and asks if we shouldn't pick a non-producing defensive D-man, and no one thinks to look up if that suggestion has ever worked out for us.

This is assuming Brown is a defensive D-man. He was almost ppg in the 16-U AAA league in his draft-1 season. Whatever that is.

Better off trading them was rhetoric. That said, I think what Habs got for 13 and 66 was better than what we got for 14 and 30.

McKenzie had Brennan at 62, so he should have been decent value at 77. Turns out he went 102 so we had another shot at him at 99.

Chevy stated it recently, paraphrased as the best player available for our needs. I get not drafting for position, but position is a factor that needs to be taken into account. There were several RHD ranked around #30 or better.

Hard to tell with Lush, because he had such a weird year, but Perfetti‘s skating has already come a long way, and it sure didn’t seem to be holding him back as he found his legs in the NHL after shredding the A.

Important, yes. A learnable skill, yes.

Lambert, who knows. If he buckles down and follows the org’s plan then I think he’s likely an excellent player for us down the road.
