From what I read, it sounded like he was flexible for either side like Schmidt. But I also don't watch Swedish hockey haha...

Not sure I'm down for pick #2 for Scheif - we need a player not a pick

We'd likely get our pick of Nemec or Jiricek. Both have the potential to be #1's both are RHD.

The downside is they aren't likely to be that by next season. They will both take some development. Though if we are trading away Scheif. I don't think our window is being swung wide open anyways.

think Heionla if he develops as I hope can be more of an all around guy like JoMo and would love to see him with Samberg long term on the second pairing.
He needs to develop -
He has the head and some of the skills but he's missing (or needs to develop) a few key attributes.
His skating is average at best - and the smaller Dmen that do well in this league, usually skate very well
He also needs strength - and I'm not talking about size.
And lastly, he needs to have a bit of an edge to his game - that will come (possibly) with added strength.
Those are all things that you might get away without in a lower league - but not in the NHL.

He can be a good one but he needs to work on the above (IMO) before he will be what everyone wants him to be.
Right now, he's missing the same things Smitty is missing -
Pionk is similar but at least has that edge
JoMo is not the same - he has the edge and he is a very good skater.

Hence why I said I hope he develops into an all around guy like JoMo. We need this dcore to have more balanced pieces in it so I hope that is how they are grooming him.

Half their team is a UFA after next season.... they need some vet presence and 'hope' to keep Larkin, Bert, Suter from walking...

Any trade would involve the prospectives teams talking to the agents, etc about long term contract potential... whatever that might look like

It hasn't really worked with Bert etc so I think Detroit would rather grow into it while doing what they can with Larkin than trade premier prospects for a 29 year old.

Oh I am aware of the rationale but good look getting another Buff to lead the charge. Also to me I'm having a hard time understanding what we are trying to build right now.

We have one real strong two-way dmen in JoMo but then a bunch of specialists.

I like Samberg as a defensive minded guy with some bite in our top 4 but outside of that we have a lot of players I'd like to see upgraded on.

I think Heionla if he develops as I hope can be more of an all around guy like JoMo and would love to see him with Samberg long term on the second pairing.

DeMelo can anchor a third pairing with any number of options, be it Chisholm, Stanley, Dillion etc.

That juat leaves a player to play with JoMo on the top pairing.

I think we might have that 2 way LHD in Chisholm.
If Heinola can bring a good return, I would move him. I think some GM will overpay for Stanley because you can't teach 6'7.

I don't think Yzerman is in to much of a hurry to get into contention. Plus Edvinsson is a LHD and there's absolutely no way they move Seider for 2 years of Scheif.

That's the other sticking point with Scheif. There's a really good chance he's a two year rental.

I saw NJ is willing to move pick #2. If we could move a package that starts with Scheif for pick 2 that would be huge.

Who we would get at #2 that could play both 2C and 1RHD?

Seriously, who would we take that fills a need? Jiricek or Nemec would fill 1RD in a couple of years. But even if they are ready to play in the NHL next year, they would be a couple of years away from being truly effective in that #1 spot.

We might be able to get a replacement top 6C there, but the same waiting period would apply and then we have only replaced Scheifele. We will have given up Scheif ++ to get that pick.

Watching the Rangers fantastic run...Schneider may be more available than Rags fans believed earlier. he is not going to replace Fox or Trouba anytime soon.
There is also no pressure on him or the Rangers to do so for at least 2 more seasons.

Eh, if they want to win he could be a valuable asset for a C.

They're weak down the middle once Stome leaves. They'll want to make use of the ELC's / bridge deals for Laf and Kaako and Shesterkins current contract. Schneider isn't going to be more than a third pairing D for 4 or 5 years.

What position are the Jets 2 #1 picks at again? I’m too lazy to bother looking it up

14 for their own pick, and between 29 and 32 depending on where the Rangers finish.

If they lose to Tampa it'll likely be 30 as I don't see Edmonton winning 4 of 6 against Colorado.

Sometime those later #1’s are the sleepers…

Wonder if they’re going to select a goalie this draft? Last 3 goalies the jets have selected are Neaton, Moe and Holm in 2019, 2018 and 2017. That pipeline is looking rather weak.

Weak? If goaltending is the heart of a team, then our aorta is clogged with plaque and the patient will die soon without an emergency bypass.

If only they had drafted Oettinger...

Probably in the later rounds, as usual. Haven't heard a thing about any goalies but in my 5 second google search 6'5" Topias Leinonen could be an option in in the third/ fourth? Think we have Columbus' third?

Edit : he's also 233 lbs.

Damn.

They had a much better season than expected and a new coach now - that need a vet leader and we could use a bertuzzi with perfetti

It just seems like a sideways move for them and competing with Florida, Tampa and Toronto seems pretty difficult for the next little bit, at least for the length of Scheifele's contract. I don't really see them trading impactful pieces right now.

The more I read about Mateychuk the more he sounds like the second coming of Josh Morrissey. He's definitely high on my list of players to select with our pick.

@Daximus in the shift by shift game I saw of him he played the whole game at RD. Does he often play his offside? If so then he would be even higher on my list as he might be able to take Schmidts role in a few years giving us more options.
