Looking at it from a Jets track record perspective. The Jets tend to do very well in the first when we focus on pure skill.

Guys like Scheifele, Conner, Ehlers, JoMo and Cole have all or look to turn into impact talents. Heinola also is looking very good as a prospect.

Even late a guy like Roslovoc who was more of a pure skill based pick still developed into a quality NHL player for us and a top 6 caliber player for Columbus.

Contrast that against our big player drafting (Trouba, Laine, Ves and Stanley) and three of the four underacheived to some extent. So to me there is something either off in what we look for in bigger players early or we don't have a good development template. We try to turn our big players into physical power players even if that isn't their game. Laine they wanted to turn into a power winger with mixed results. Ves flopped, Stanley is inconsistent on the third pairing. Really only Trouba delivered and that is largely due to him already having the nasty in his game so nothing to change there.

I think the org has a niche with finesse based players and should stick to drafting them. They can then trade for the bigger power players that have been developed by other orgs like ehat we did with Dubois.

Looking forward to some details on guys in the late first range now that it's officially ours!

I really like this Adam Ingram kid. Plays for Youngstown in the USHL, From Manitoba. Ranked has high as late 20's and as low as mid 3rd round. Very similar player to Kyle Connor. Solid skater, excellent shooter, high IQ, great playmaker.

Kids has the tools to be a Connor like player in the NHL. Led his team in goals and assists by a solid margin. I think he's a really solid pick in the 29-32 range.

Nice!! He’s a 6’2” centre and I really like that he led his team in scoring putting up 55 points and the next closest forward on Youngstown put up 38 points.

Scheifele, Trouba and Vesalainen are all almost the exact same height and weight. But I agree with your point, drafting for skill is good. I'd like to see them draft a strong skater as well. Jets need all the skill and speed they can get.

What are the odds the Jets could use their 2 1sts plus other picks/prospects to move into the top 10 and snag one of the 2 RHD?

Sure but Scheifele was far from a physical specimen when drafted. He was all out finesse who had issues staying on his feet when engaging in physical battles. Also Mark was drafted early and under our old head scout so maybe there was a different drafting template then or a different development model as he predated Maurice getting here.

One of the reasons I want Savoie is his combination of skill and speed. He looks like another player who could fall in the Ehlers/Conner mold for us.

What's the deal with Geekie? He has good stats and is huge, he must have some flaw to not be as highly ranked?

Questions of how much his point production is from being on a stacked Ice team while only showing flashes of skill. Basically checks all the question marks that big young players have.
Questionable skating, doesn't look like he's always playing full tilt so effort gets questioned, suspect defensively. Just lots of question marks to his game that make people want more every time they see those flashes that he shows.

I'm high on him, I think he has legitimate 1st line center upside so I'd be happy with him at 14. I think he has a reasonably high floor even if he doesn't reach his potential though. Dubois might be a good mentor in getting him to use his body more effectively but I think he needs to improve his skating first and foremost.

So, I’ve been reading some mock drafts since the game ended and a player I really like who is slated to go around the Rangers pick (it seems, I thought he was supposed to go much earlier) is Ivan Miroshnichenko.

Thoughts?

Paging, perhaps, @Daximus ?

Skating is the big one. It's not bad but not great either. Also his counting numbers don't seem to align with talent. Given his talent you'd expect more points.

I'd still easily take him at 14 though as if he puts everything together and polishes up his skating he could be a damn good 1st line center with size and some snarl.

Hmm, reading his picks maybe we take Sam Rinzel with our second 1st?

6'4 RHD, Minny kid going to Minnesota in 23-24. Probably USHL fulltime next year.

He's one I was thinking about as well.

Pickering, Rinzel, Bichsel, Chesley, Luneau, or maybe a player we don't expect drops as well.

Love it. High risk but very high reward if he fully recovers

Hockey Prospects have Rinzel at #17 in their last ranking.
