Nazar is a RW.
hmm he was listed as C on the sights I have scene is he playing mostly RW? The high lights make it hard to tell because he attacks from all over the ice.

Sounds similar to Barnsley from the scouting reports I’ve read, which isn’t bad.

smaller player, but w/ a game predicated on speed and high-motor. similar traits to a player like Point. not saying he will be Point, however just the traits.

edit- what do you know.... his favorite player is Point, lol

Sounds like skating needs some improvement but he’s a high character, high IQ player who is great at generating chances for his line mates or himself and is a nightmare to defend.

Sign me up. That’s something the Jets need more of.

The highlights I watched his speed and explosiveness with the Puck is very much like Point/Jarvis type. He likes the puck on his stick but moves nicely without it. Honestly I have to dig in more on him and I will try to find some more scouting footage.

yeah he does. iirc from the stats i saw, he's uber strong in zone-entry and creating off the rush, one of the most talented of the past few years. which would make sense given like i said his game seems to be predicated on speed. seems like he's a faster, and stronger skating version of Perfetti at this stage of their careers. Jets like their US boys too.

One dark horse prospect I'm keeping my eye on is Owen Pickering. I know, another LHD, but he's 6'4" and has some offensive upside. I've seen him as anywhere from mid-first to late-first/early-second from mock drafts.

Raw talent seems to be there, but there's some aspects to his game he'll need work on.

If it matters at all: he's from St. Adolphe, MB.

EDIT: Not someone I'd grab in the first round, but I might trade up in the 2nd to grab him if he's still on the board

Thanks for that report. Looks like their ranking him at about 50th OA.

I agree a lot of what was said there If he's still on the board, I think he'd be a good choice for our 2nd round pick.

Of course, my caveat would be if the Moose would let him QB their PP. Let him play his natural offensive instincts while learning the defensive responsibilities.

I could see TN trying to mold him as a shutdown D, and if that's the case, we'd be better off picking someone else.

Similar size as Perfetti, not as skilled and doesn't have as high a hockey IQ but he is quicker and has good burst.

How would you rate the diff in competition and linemates?

Well Perfetti outscored his next highest teammate by almost the total amount of points Nazar put up this past year so I'd peg his teammates as not great.

Nazar played with great talent like Cooly etc. So I'd peg his situation similar to Roslovic's at the draft.

Just got back from the Warriors vs Ice game tonight.

Felt like Denton Mateychuk really stood out and was strong. Loved his feel for the game out there. Seemed to be always in the right spots and was solid in both zones.

I know he doesn't fit the originizational needs, per se, but I'm excited to watch where he ends up in the draft process.

I think that unless one of those top RHDs inexplicably fall to 14 you just take who you feel is BPA. If that's Mateychuk, then take him. Organizational need can change at any time - the Jets once had the best right side on defence in the league until they were all gone in a very short time span.

Yes, I do agree.

I truthfully just don't follow the prospects that closely and have seen him around 20+ area in some projections. So I didn't really see it as a BPA situation with where the Jets are picking and the potential other players available.

Regardless, I am in the same boat as you. Especially when it comes to drafting kids who are 18 years old. Such a wide degree of physical growth yet to occur for a lot of these kids and the timeline can easily take a few years. Which, as we know, a lot can change, especially at the NHL level roster with your big club.

Drafting most valuable player (within reason, obviously) = more valuable asset.

So I'm cool with the BPA approach.

Really curious where the Jets will have Mateychuk on their board when the time comes. The other players who were supposed to stand out like Savoie, definitely did. But I was just impressed with the mature game on defense from him all night. Very solid and sturdy.

There's a lot of variance in the rankings right now for prospects, especially once you get past the first 10 or so. Also a lot of the rankings now are a couple of months old. I think of the major rankings outlets only Pronman has an up to date prospect list and Mateychuk is 13th on his list.

Good to see you back Dax.

Now who do we want to pick at 14?

That's a good question. Denton Mateychuk lives across the street from me. Next time I see him outside I'll ask him if he wants to be a Jet.

Good to see all of you as well!

Are you going to drop back around to share your thoughts on some of the top prospects? @jimsabo21 has been doing some solid passionate posting on prospects but the more the merrier.

Don’t be a stranger I realize our team and organization are currently the laughing stock of the league for how we are imploding publicly and the main board thread worthy bizzarre Scheifele end of the season WWE heel promo….Ok and the fact HF Jets board is a toxic waisteland that Mel Gibson could make a post appolcolipic movie franchise out of but common Dax other than that what reason is there to not want to hang out? :sarcasm:

I was getting pretty toxic there for awhile too. Sometimes you just gotta take a break when you find yourself just getting angry over every little thing the team does. I'm just ready for a fresh slate and a new season.

Yes I have been guilty of the same thing. I found it easiest to just watch allot less hockey. I think I might have watched less than half the Jets games this season. Watching a team that didn’t seem to be on the same page as far as commitment got a bit tired.

What is your scouting report on Mateychuk?

Mateychuk could be a good one. Too bad he is a LHD.

What do you think of Ryan Chesley? A lot have him in the 2nd rd but McKenzie has him at 18.
RHD, adequate size, some skill. Just had a good U18 tourny.

What is your scouting report on Mateychuk?

Yeah I stopped watching a little after Mo left. Team was tough to watch this year. I think it's because I was expecting a lot more than they delivered.

I really like Mateychuk. Really dynamic and free flowing style for a defencemen. Seems like whenever he has the puck the play is just going downhill towards the offensive zone. Always has his head up looking to make plays, great passer and has a solid shot with a quick release and picks his spots really well. Never forces things but also isn't to hesitant to get pucks on net. His defending is his major weakness. He's quick and can close gaps quickly and has an active stick but his gameplay is always likely to be more suited to driving play towards the offensive zone. As much as I like him, he's another in the mold of small, quick, offensive defencemen that may struggle with defence at the NHL level. He's going to be one of those risky picks where if he pans out he could be a #1, 1st PP QB type of defencemen or he could just be one of those smaller 4-6 types who can have an impact most nights but may cost you because his offensive play may not make up for his defensive shortcomings.

Just watched a Montreal based podcast...a Quebec based scout claimed Wright is "not elite" and if it were him he would draft Geekie 1st overall because of the immense upside.
