Yeah seemed like everyone had a good game.

Game not withstanding who would be your top 5 players who you think we should target around pick 19. I haven't had really anytime this year to do much if any scouting so I don't really know much about any of the kids available.

It's really hard to say. The draft could go a lot of ways. If Lambos is there I think you pounce on him, he could fall and could be the steal of the draft. Stankoven is a smaller but very skilled RW that could drop a bit due to size. Bourgault is a solid C/RW, not overly big but plays a very strong game. Lots of guys like MacTavish, L'Heureux, Chayka, Pinelli, Othmann, Robertsson to keep an eye on around that 19 spot.

Lambos if he falls to us for sure

But from this game.
Pinelli caught my eye. Just puts up points where ever he plays.
Stankoven is a fire hydrant who is always on the puck
Brett Harrison looks like a big power forward
Carson Cuelmans was solid all over the ice
Chase Stillman would be a good 2nd round get a real motor never stops going
Ethan Del Mastro likely 2nd/3rd but I liked the big D man
Jack Matier another likely 2nd/3rd rounder but a big power forward

IIRC, last time Vegas was given no worse odds than the 6th ranked team. I think that means they could go as low as 7th.

There is only lottery for the top 2 picks now though. So the lowest you can drop is 2 spots and they are gaurnateed 3rd odds, so I think the lowest they can go to is 5th, provided two teams that are not the last and 2nd last team win the lottery.

Every year I start to focus in on one player. This year for me it’s Carson Cuelmans. I’m going to stick on that pick this year.

Is Matier a forward now?

Have a feeling he's gone before our pick. Try not to focus on one pick at a time. Really easy to get stuck on a guy you likely will not get, instead focus on groupings of players. Identify the guys that are in a roughly similar category relative to our pick and figure out a handful of guys that fit well into the culture we have. No matter who the coach is the culture should stay the same because eventually it's formed by the players.

Yeah that's what I thought. Joe described him as a power forward so I thought maybe he had changed positions.

Yeah definitely more of a defensive RHD and not someone I'd even think about taking in the top 4 rounds.

Why does the change to the lottery bump them up to guaranteed 3rd odds? Vegas was guaranteed 6th.

I believe Bettman has overreacted to NYR winning Laf. If you give all non-PO teams a chance at winning, you have to know that the highest ranked team will win sometime. It could still happen. Last could be first.

Make more slots available in the lottery, not less. Lower the odds for the highest finishing teams. As long as those odds are > 0, they will win occasionally.

Thanks Dax Usually I do focus in on groupings. But some years I’ve focused in on one prospect Ehlers, Connor for example and even though they were a reach where we picked. It worked out.

They are guaranteed the same odds as 3rd just like Vegas was. But guaranteed to fall no lower than 5th.

You sure? I thought VGK was guaranteed the same odds as the 6th team. And no, I am not certain. That is what I remember.

We’ve seen pretty hefty jumps in recent years.

Oilers jumped a fair bit to land McDavid. Us with Laine. Philly with Patrick. Rangers now with Lafreniere. Heiskanen to Dallas was a big lottery jump too IIRC.

I understand the purpose of the lottery but crap like that was/is happening far too often.
