GDT: The 2021 NHL Entry Draft Thread! Round 1, 8pm EST on ESPN2!

Larceny for Detroit. Buffalo’s first next year is by far the most valuable piece in that package due to them having a very real likelihood of finishing last next year, guaranteeing Savoie minimum and adding another set of odds for Wright.

I’d be happy to even put Bertuzzi in it instead of our 2nd.

Not a fan of this player. He's got Boyd Devereaux level hands. If we're looking for a 13th forward I'd rather use Chase Pearson.
My issue with Khaira is his concussion issues. He took a beating, last year, and was out for two stints with some severe head hits.

I'm so pumped for tonight...

If we get Eklund I'm gonna be absolutely fired up. Centers always creep up a bit on draft day, so it wouldn't shock me to see McTavish jump into the top 5, leaving guys like Hughes, Guenther, Eklund potentially available.

I convinced myself that since we acquired Nedeljkovic, that this means we are not interested in Wallstedt. The only way I am really pissed tonight is if we grab Wallstedt. Edvinsson doesn't really excite me at all either, but I would sleep on that pick and hope for the potential.
I expect Detroit after trading for the guy who's name no one but him can pronounce Alex Nedeljkovic to make Jesper Wallstedt his first rounder this year because who does Detroit have...van Pottelberghe possibly?I think Yzerman wants his kind of guys and the younger the better

I am A-OK with this. I'm also really hoping that Detroit makes off like bandits and somehow steals Svechkov, whether it be from him falling or from us trading up to get him. I really think that kid is going to be a player you win with.

Pretty excited for tonight and I am really looking forward to it.

Get a defensemen or Eklund with our top pick and I will be happy.
My thoughts exactly. It's exciting again for the first time in years as it seems the pieces are finally falling into place.

Probably for free.

$5M expiring contract, expected to miss at least one month of the season with shoulder surgery. Does not get along with coaches.
I've watched Domi since junior. He's too much of a prima donna. When things are running smoothly and he puts his mind to it he is an amazing player. Too often that's not the case.

... as a 2C.

Not sure I'd want to pick a 2C with #6OA, and I think it's a no brainer at #22OA. Chances are pretty good he goes #10 - 15. Would not be upset if Stevie goes for the "reach".

I think if we pick a guy that turns out to be a 2C on a team that turns out to be a contender eventually it's mission accomplished. Anything more is a huge bonus. I don't think there's a 1C in the draft.

Svechkov is the guy that has the makings of a future Selke contender. He's a great passer, probably top 5 for a forward in this draft. A terrific skater and can play pretty physical. The fear with Beniers and McTavish is that they also only become 2Cs. The fear with Edvinsson and Hughes and Clarke is that they only become 2nd pair D. Those are still valuable players.

He's for sure a top 6 guy, but he's at the higher end of 2nd line production to lower end of 1st line production. He's also not good defensively and you're probably not getting much more out of this guy if the best he could muster is a 65 point season in a high scoring year while stapled to Eichel's wing.

He's a 55-60 point player on average. Probably 25-30 goals a season. If we're using up high draft capital on someone it better be Werenski and not a one dimensional scoring forward. We can do better.

Yeah that's fair, and like I said I probably wouldn't deal #6 for him. But if pick #22 got you a 25yo offensive-minded 2C that's a no-brainer in my eyes. Not saying Larkin-Reinhart-Veleno/Ras takes you to the promised land, but that's a big step up from any center group we've had in years.

This is all hypothetical of course, but if Reinhart goes I expect he'll cost more than a late first.

Lol..It's really not THAT hard to pronounce. The "j" in the middle of the name is silent, and then the vic at the end is pronounced as "vitch", and that's pretty much it. If you watch tennis and know the pronunciation of "Djokovic" or watch basketball and know the pronunciation of "Nikola Jokic" it helps with the pronunciation here.

If we pick Wallstedt I'm gonna lose my mind. I don't want a goalie at 6, especially when there could be names like Eklund, Hughes, Edvinsson, McTavish or Guenther on the board.

Would be a good pick by Detroit for sure. Yzerman is one of the few who had/has a "rapport" with Russian players that made coming over and playing together a possibility. Did with Tampa and I expect he'll try to do that with Detroit! Two things motivate Russian players, money and top flight/equal opportunities! That and having 2,3,4 Russian comrades to play with

You want to join the Svechkov Fan Club with me? We need to come up with cool shirts and buttons

Yzerman said we get the best available player blah blah blah, but man we are kinda stocked on our defense prospects and they're doing pretty good. My guess this draft will more àbout forwards, preference to center position. Besides Raymond we have not much on the wing position . I don't believe McTavish or Eklund going to be available. , So I guess it's ether Johnson or Gunther

Not much on wing?

You're seriously underrating Berggren. The guy put up one of the best seasons ever by an under 21 player in the SHL. Also there are other guys that look like they could be good players for us on the wing. I think we spend our 2nds on c/w types. Maybe the late 1st.
