GDT: The 2021 NHL Entry Draft Thread! Round 1, 8pm EST on ESPN2!

Don't love it yet, but don't hate it. We NEED to target high upside forwards with the rest of our picks though. The Hoglander/Pulkinen/Nybeck type of picks in the later rounds, uber talented players who have some flaws in their game but elite potential elsewhere. Most won't work out but all you need is a few.

Cossa is a plus athlete with all that size, he isn't just a positional guy. We will see, I still like that Stevie has targeted goalie and defense, he has fixed those. He can go heavy up front which is easier to do in the next couple of drafts. It is solid building fundamentals, hopefully the lottery smiles on us, Wright would make us a contender in pretty quick order if all goes well, but I know the percentage on that chance aren't high. It is still nice to see the summer Yzerman is having, happy to see the aggressiveness.

Who was a #1C in this draft? Unless someone really surprises everyone that guy wasn't in this draft. Next year though could be it. And I say this as someone who thinks Larkin is #2C.

Cossa actually rated slower in speed categories than Gaudreau and Wallstedt. Up-down, side-to-side.

He also had a worse rate of rebound control.

Oh, and he also had a worse high and medium danger save percentage than those guys.

I f***ing hate this pick.

This draft is playing out well in my eyes and we are landing players I like, but my excitement is almost tempered because players I like more were still available at both spots

You just can’t trade up and take a goalie. I don’t care how good you think he is. Especially when you need offense. As someone who’s loved every move Stevie has made, I’m not liking this draft.
